My breath erupted into shallow pants as I fought to get air. I leaned on the inside of my front door, sinking my heels into the carpet. It was a threat. I knew it as soon as it uttered from his lips. Jake Sutherland was an important man, and the dangerous streak in him could f**k me passionately or destroy me financially with one flick of the wrist. I closed the door behind me and checked the lock twice before heading upstairs to my bedroom.
