QUARANTINE

*19th April 2027*

"Ringggg" the alarm went off again, that was the 3rd time that morning.

Katherine turned slowly on the bed almost unbothered. she lazily reached for her cellphone on the side table. it was already 9am.

she was late again.

she didn't scream, didn't react dramatically, she just got up from the bed and walked into her bathroom.

she removed her silk night wear and soaked herself into the bathtub. she just lay there eyes open staring at the ceiling. she was already late for work, even if she showed up now at work she knew she was already fired.

she had previously gone through a divorce with her second husband. and her children, all 3 of them were handed over to him stating the fact that he had a clean record and a stable job.

she had been to jail twice and had been fired from 10 jobs in 6 months, 3 in which she was fired and 7 in which she just stopped showing up.

" what do I have to loose" she said to herself almost in a whisper.

she slowly got up from the bathtub and moves to the kitchen for a cup of coffee. she sipped her coffee once then proceeded to the sitting room to watch television .

she reached her hand to the table finally getting the remote and Turning up the TV.

she quickly switch to volleyball channel. 3 mins into the game an explosion occurred in the game.

she laughed and went back to her coffee. switching channels almost immediately.

until she stopped at a commercial TV show. she knew the show very well as she had also worked in the organisation before. she watched the show each laughter from her former boss expanding an already visible wound in her heart .

just then the light goes off and the radio in the house starts playing a strange frequency.

she paid no attention to it as she moves through the house and discovers that the whole circuit is fried.

just then she starts to hear emergency sirens outside . suddenly her TV comes on. this time it was showing an emergency protocol directed to all citizens by the president himself .

according to the president all citizens were advised to evacuate the city as a massive earthquake was about to occur. the tremors had already started and the earthquake will soon spread towards Georgia.

all the citizens were required to move to a safe camp in Russia . as it was the nearest country to Georgia and won't likely reach there.

Katherine was curious and confused unto why the citizens had to evacuate the whole country entirely. immediately another siren goes off and she snaps back to reality.

she moved fast gathering anything she found essential or important while trying to reach her ex husband on the phone.

as she moved outside her house she realised that most of her neighbours had already evacuated and the few remaining was already leaving. she immediately threw her bags into her car and drives off.

not long into the drive she found herself in the middle of heavy traffic. in frustration she leaves her car and steps down only to find out that the road was completely blocked by a garbage truck . which the locals believed to have been involved in an accident.

she tried contacting her ex husband on the phone again but realised that network was down. there was no possible means of contacting anyone now.

she completely breaks down and start to scream. clearly absorb by fear.

*back to the present*

the system starts to override as a figure of a woman in her late 60s is seen shaking violently in a chair. with wires connected to her head.

a man in a black suit issues a command and the section is immediately stopped.

she wakes up in one of the crib rooms as the officials like to refer to the rooms were most people are kept hostage for a confidential project nobody knows about.

she looked at the wall with empty eyes. it has been 49 years since the earth fell out of its orbit.

22 years of isolation and pain. the earth core has been eating itself for over the years and humans had barely 2 yrs to survive.

half of the planet was already destroyed. wiping out 70% of the human race with it.

she never imagined her last year's to be filled with so much pain and regret.

in another part of the crib we discover a young girl. in her early 20s staring at the pictures of a woman and her husband with 3 children. they looked so happy as a family.

she quickly folds the crumpled picture, tucking it inside her underwear.before her crib door swings open. she tried to push the soldiers and run but she was too weak. so they just grabbed her and and gave her a seditive making her fall unconscious immediately.

after she blacks out. two security personnel carries her unto a hospital trailer . and takes her to a strange room with heavily armed security guards.

in the room we see a high glass sitting area for a supposed audience and an all round bullet proof glass compartment in the middle .

she is quickly taken into the glass compartment and cuffed to a chair. one of the scientists comes in to give her a dose of another injection. which tends to counter the first as she starts to wake up.

she looks around to see herself In a chair hands and legs cuffed and wires connected to her head.

*19th April 2027*

Julie happily runs downstairs to meet her dad and siblings. she has stumbled 3 times in the hall way. and almost fell twice. although being only 3yrs, she had very rapid growth and looked twice her age.

her dad, Demian also Katherine's ex husband was seen in the dinning area looking distressed as his phone had previously fallen into the boiling pot of porridge while he was making breakfast.

Julie just hugged her dad giving the most realistic smile he will ever see in his life. just like magic he forgets all about his phone and settles to eat with his kids.

after the meal Demian struggles to take the kids to school as his gas had ran out earlier that morning. he had forgotten to refill it. so he decided to take the kids to school by public transport.

also bringing along an empty container he was going to use in carrying the gas as he car could not be driven to the gas station.

just then a mini quake hits the town. causing a traffic distress as several car crashes into each other. luckily no one was hurt. and they had only little casualties.

Demian decided to take his children back home as the accident had caused all the public transport to be temporarily stopped.

when they arrived home, all the electric appliances were fried. just then john came running into the house with a pace that screamed urgency. he was a friend of demian who lived just 2 blocks down the road. little julie clonged to her brother's sleeves. none of them understood anything that was happening.

before demain could speak, john drags him to a corner and pulls out his phone and plays the emergency warning. they had to leave the city Immediately.

Demain didn't speak. he just covered his mouth trying to take everything in. almost immediately another tremor occurred, this time it was stronger. little julie screams as the refrigerator falls toward her dad.

*back to the present*

The girl's section was immediately stopped. she was already bleeding from her nostrils. although being sedated she was half conscious and could hear faint noises.

she was taken back to her crib room and left to recover alone in the darkness. all she could think about was escaping that hell of place and finding her family.
