Chapter four

Chapter 4 OH MY GOD, i thought and let out a scream that felt as though I was being strangled. I don’t know the demon that pushed me to literally insult the LYON KANE. Why didn’t it click when he said his name? I guess I was so lost in my own world to realise what was happening. He was the CEO of The Kaned Hotels; a chain of hotels and resorts that were spread across the lengths and breaths of the country. He was literally oozing money and I failed to notice. I’ve definitely bitten more than I can chew. Though it had had its fair share of ups and downs due to Lyons’s numerous escapades, it was still one of the A list hotels the country could boast of. And little old Lisa i.e ‘Me’ who had not even a dime to her name had the nerve, the audacity, to say even say a word in his presence. Who dares to speak when His Higness has not permitted? That would be me I guess. Indefinitely know there’s a punishment coming my way so I need to do some damage control. Against better judgment I decided to apologize to the dude, he deserved it. I rarely apologized to people even I knew I was very wrong but this could lift the judgement off of my head so I guess that’s what I’ll be doing. **** I got to the office complex and I almost regretted ever leaving my house. The place was actually very busy and everyone was busy going about their various duties. I somehow fell in love with the ease and flexibility with which they were working. And then it struck me that I had indeed made a mistake because I most definitely will not be allowed to meet the LYON KANE without an appointment, you know how they do in those big companies. I felt a little stupid standing in the middle of the office while everyone else was just busy earning themselves a living and I just happened to insult the boss of this entire building. Like what was I even thinking. I’ve always been a sharp mouth and I’ve always know that it’s going to land me in trouble one way or the other. That day just came sooner than I expected. Well I might just go home and wait for His Highness’ verdict. I stepped out and I almost bumped into someone. “Well well well who do we have here?” came the most annoying voice that I couldn’t help but detest with everything I had. I resisted the urge of an eye roll and a nasty comeback because I was supposed to be on my best behaviour today. “Well hello there Mr Lucas, hope all is well. May I have the pleasure of meeting with your boss please?” I asked as sweetly as I could. He was almost taken aback with my tone because he had one of the most foolish looks on his face and I almost burst out laughing but I held it in because it wasn’t the time or the place for that. “Why do you need to speak to Lyon,” he asked. “Well I’m not so proud of our last meeting and if you’ll give me the chance I’d like to rectify that,” I said, still as sweet as nectar. “How foolish of you to walk into the lion’s den with your own two legs. Oh I’m so excited to see how this is going to turn out. Follow me, would you please,” he said with so much glee that made me wonder whether I’ve indeed made a grave mistake. I mean Lyon couldn’t be that bad. We took the elevator to the last floor where I assumed Lyon’s office was. The time it took to the reach the floor and the silence in the elevator made me a little jittery and I had a renewed sense of fear. Lucas had a smile on his face the whole time and he was unusually happy and that didn’t help matters at all. We finally got out of the elevator and I let out a breath that I didn’t even realize I was holding. We walked down the hallway and entered an office which I assumed was Lyons’. The office really did not disappoint. It had a great view that overlooked the city. It would really be therapeutic to enjoy this view all day any day. It was quite spacious and the desk sat at the far end of the office, giving enough room for any other activities. The luxurious and obviously expensive chair faced the glass windows and if you tilted your neck far enough, you’d see the city up close as though the buildings were right beside you. Staring at this all day everyday could really uplift you but I guess the Lyon Kane did not get the memo. “Lyon, I believe your day is going to get better of course depending on how you treat this little issue right here,” he said pointing to me. I just rolled my eyes because clearly he was doing too much. “I’ll just leave you to it then. I can’t wait for you tell me about it after.” He said and left the room with as much happiness as a child who just got a new toy. Lyon had not said a single word since I entered the room. He was just staring a hole through my entire being and honestly I felt like disappearing. “What do you want here?” He asked not breaking eye contact even for a second. “That’s actually a very funny question,” I said with a sheepish giggle. He was clearly didn’t see the humour in that, if anything, the scowl on his face just deepened. “Well,” I said clearing my throat “Mr Lyon Kane I made a mistake and I am so sorry. I deserve everything that you’ll do to me but I humbly plead your mercy.” I said going down on my knees. I looked up to gauge his reactions and his face was just like a blank piece of canvas, no emotion could be seen on his face. He just pulled a chair and took a seat as if to get a better view and enjoy the show. As he didn’t say anything, I continued, “I really disrespected your office and everything you stand for in the parking lot yesterday, please forgive me. I was really having a bad day yesterday, my little brother has been diagnosed with ebstein anomaly and he needs surgery as soon as possible or he might die. I don’t even know why I threw my phone. I was just not in my right sense yesterday and I’m so sorry.” He almost looked bored at this point. “You can get up now,” he said. Well I guess he’s had enough of this melodrama. “I’ve heard what you have to say, you didn’t need to bore me with that story of yours,” he said. What the hell ! “Just leave your number on the desk and you’ll know when I decide what to do with you. You can leave now, I have much more important things to do,” he concluded, dismissing me. As in of cue, that annoying Lucas barged into the office. I just closed the door behind me and I felt even more foolish than when I got here. Well that went great. **** “Lyon, the board called again and they were more on my neck about that decision man. They need an answer from you ASAP or you lose your spot,” Lucas said in a rush as if he was being chased. Lucas just let out a deep breath, “What I should do man? I can’t lose this. We’ve worked too hard for this and we can’t let him take everything away just like that,” he said dejected. “Why don’t you just do what they are asking you to do? It’ll save you from all this stress. You don’t have to stay in the mariage forever. Just a year would suffice, it’s a win win situation.” “I can’t just let go of my freedom like that,” Lyon reasoned. Lucas shot back, “What means more to you? Your supposed freedom or your company? Think about it, you’ll finance this whole marriage thing so you’ll be in charge, you’ll call the shots. So technically you’ll still have your freedom” Lucas seemed to be making so much sense today. One would wonder if he turned a new leaf overnight. “I’d really have to think about this because that is a whole year of my life we are talking about,” Lyon mulled. “Don’t you get what’s going on? WE DON’T HAVE THAT MUCH TIME,” Lucas annunciated. Just then the door burst open with so much force that the two men almost leaped out of their seats. Two pairs of eyes turned to face whoever was at the door and they couldn’t be more surprised
