"She's pregnant," I whispered in excited disbelief as she showered. I was going to be a daddy. I had been putting almost all of my money from the Bratva into a savings account for years for just this reason. I was terrified, but the prospect of having a son or daughter was exciting. During our conversations while I was away, she had mentioned how being a mom was something she had always wanted.
I shook my head as she came back into her room. I pulled her close and kissed her, enjoying the moment before I had to return to reality. She gently pushed me away and in a terrified voice said, "What are we going to do? We can't afford a baby!"
I gently took her wrist and pulled her down to the bed before I murmured, "Don't worry about that, Li. I'll take care of everything. All you need to do is worry about keeping yourself healthy, okay?"
She hesitated. "You work part time at a book store. How are you going to afford an infant?"
I pressed my lips to her temple in a quick kiss. "I have a savings account, Kitten. Please. Trust me."
She nodded and then said, "okay, but what about Jason? And Lilly? They'll kill you!"
I sighed. "You're probably right. They're going to be pissed, but Kitten, that is our child you're making in here" I pressed my hand to her tummy. "I don't care how pissed they are. I'm not going to abandon you or our baby. They'll get over it. I'm sure they will."
She nodded and leaned against me. I guided her to a more comfortable position so that I could hold her and we sat like that for hours. Her phone was ringing off the hook and I finally groaned and handed it to her. She answered and listened for minute before leaving the room. When she came back it was with a mysterious letter. She read it quickly and then said, "It looks like I have a secret admirer."
I felt a slight bit of anger and jealousy pop up as I read the note which basically just said that she could do better and asking her to meet. I then noticed that it also said I was keeping secrets from her which only one person knew. Well, only one person who would ever tell her I'm keeping secrets. Alexei. I looked into her eyes and begged, "Please don't go meet this person."
she got a bit defensive when she said, "Why would I? Why would you even have to ask me not to?" I looked away from her. "Jackson, what are you hiding from me?"
I scrubbed my face and ran my hand through my hair. Realizing that she was likely going to leave, I kissed her one more time as passionately as I could. I then whispered, "Kitten, Alexei is alive."
She growled, "How the hell would you know?"
I stood and cupped her face in my hands and gently leaned my forehead against hers. "He's my cousin."
The second the words left my mouth, her knee was connected to my groin. She grabbed my hair as I doubled over and forced me to look at her as she hissed, "Get the f**k out. Now!"
I grabbed my phone and before I left, I said, "I'm sorry, Kitten. I love you. And nothing will stop me from that or from taking care of that little one that you're growing."
I said that, but in reality, I knew there was a good chance she would never let me see my child. I lied to her about something huge. I was expecting this, but I never expected to add a child to the mix. I was walking on autopilot and somehow I ended up at Wolfe's apartment. He took one look at me and opened the door.
"What did you do, " he said. "You look like absolute s**t dude." I told him about everything that had happened. "s**t. The logical next step is to tell her the truth about the Bratva. But I bet she won't talk to you anymore."
I shook my head and collapsed on the couch with tears streaming down my eyes.
