The Perfect Chance to Kill Her

1560 Words
“How do you feel now?” Lin Wanqiu asked softly. “My joints... it feels like they’ve been smashed with a hammer. It hurts like hell!” Mu Yunfeng gritted out from where he lay sprawled on the floor. He had never expected that this woman had summoned him here simply to test poison on him—and before his body had even fully recovered. So this was her true face, completely exposed. The poison he had just swallowed was already taking effect, tormenting him until he felt half-dead. Yet perhaps because he had already survived the exquisite agony of the Ten-Day Devouring Pill, Mu Yunfeng was shocked to realize that this pain was... manageable. The thought made him freeze. Oh no. If this keeps up, am I going to turn into some kind of masochist? Meanwhile, Lin Wanqiu frowned slightly after hearing his description. “That’s not right. By all logic, it shouldn’t be like this.” “If you said your head felt like it was about to explode, I’d understand. But why would your joints hurt?” Hearing her casual tone, Mu Yunfeng broke out in a cold sweat. Wait. A bursting head is the *normal* reaction? What exactly did you make me eat?! Lin Wanqiu thought for a moment. “Anything else?” “I... I can’t really describe it.” Hearing that, she crouched beside him, checked his pulse, pried open one eyelid, then examined his mouth before rising and walking toward the desk. As she went, she muttered to herself. “Strange. It shouldn’t be like this.” Mu Yunfeng was in too much pain to care what she was doing. Before long, lying on the floor, he drifted into unconscious sleep. --- He had no idea how long he slept. When he opened his eyes again, the sky outside the window was completely dark. A single candle flame flickered softly inside the room, casting warm shadows across Lin Wanqiu’s sleeping face. Mu Yunfeng slowly stood and looked toward the woman slumped over the desk. Her veil had slipped to one side, revealing her face completely. Her brows were slightly furrowed, as if something in her dreams frightened her. For the first time, that cruel and venomous woman looked strangely fragile and helpless—someone one might instinctively want to protect. Who would’ve thought? Sleeping, this vicious woman was actually quite alluring. He clicked his tongue. “She wears the veil for nothing. False advertising.” Turning quietly, he prepared to leave. Then after taking only a single step, a realization struck him like lightning. It was the dead of night. She was asleep. Wasn’t this the perfect chance to kill her? The antidote was probably on her body somewhere. Kill her, find it, and flee this hell tonight. Mu Yunfeng slowly approached her side and pulled out a sharpened stone from his clothes. He had casually picked it up that morning while wandering the Five Poisons Sect. Bit by bit, he moved the stone toward Lin Wanqiu’s throat. His arm trembled uncontrollably. Kill her. Just kill her, and I can escape this nightmare. He steeled himself and was about to drive the stone downward— Then, from the corner of his eye, he noticed one of Lin Wanqiu’s fingers twitch. Mu Yunfeng’s eyes widened. Without hesitation, he reversed the stone in one smooth motion and slipped it back into his clothes. Then he sighed dramatically, removed his outer robe, and gently draped it over her shoulders. “Honestly... sleeping here like this? You don’t even know how to take care of yourself.” With that, he turned and quickly left the room. The moment the door closed behind him, he let out a long breath and clutched his chest, his heart still pounding. If he had made even one wrong move just now, he would already be a corpse. Thinking back on it, of course it made sense. She was the infamous Thousandfold Venom Maiden. How could someone like her sleep without caution? “Almost got tricked by her. Good thing I’m smart.” Muttering to himself, Mu Yunfeng did not dare linger and hurried away from that dangerous place. Inside the room, Lin Wanqiu slowly opened her eyes. She glanced at the door, then at the robe draped over her body. For a moment, she simply stared. “Take care of yourself...” How long had it been since anyone had said words like that to her? --- The next morning, Mu Yunfeng felt his body had grown heavier. “Thinking about how she looked yesterday... she obviously used the wrong poison.” “Does that mean there’s another poison inside me now?” His expression darkened. At this rate, even if he managed to obtain a full antidote for the Ten-Day Devouring Pill, his body would already have become a nest of toxins. Once separated from that woman, who knew how long he would live? How the hell was he supposed to run? “Damn it!” “Was this part of your plan too?” “That’s evil.” The more he thought about it, the more Mu Yunfeng felt completely trapped by Lin Wanqiu’s calculations. After eating the breakfast Nan’er prepared, he headed straight for the medicinal garden without delay. --- When the old man saw him arrive, he smiled as if he had expected it. “Looks like last night wasn’t easy for you.” “I was practically drained dry,” Mu Yunfeng said bitterly. As they spoke, a disciple entered the garden and bowed respectfully. “Ghost Elder, Elder Qi sent me to collect some Bamboo Worm Herb.” Ghost Elder casually pointed toward a nearby herb field. “That patch over there. Take it yourself.” Then he turned to Mu Yunfeng. “Come with me.” Mu Yunfeng followed him into a pitch-dark room. The chamber faced away from the sun, and even in the morning, little light entered. A cold gust swept through the room, filling Mu Yunfeng with a sense of foreboding. “Aren’t you supposed to be taking my blood? What is this for?” “It *is* for taking blood.” Ghost Elder spoke as he retrieved a long ceramic jar from the corner and removed the lid. “Put your hand inside.” Mu Yunfeng stared at the black opening of the jar, the corners of his eyes twitching. “This... is for taking blood?” Ghost Elder smiled. “That’s right. Just put your hand in. Only for a moment.” Mu Yunfeng slowly stepped backward. “Sorry, but couldn’t you just prick my fingertip with a needle? Why go through something this troublesome?” Seeing that Mu Yunfeng had become wary and could no longer be deceived, Ghost Elder dropped the act entirely. His expression twisted into something vicious. “The blood I need is just a tiny bit more.” “That little prick won’t be nearly enough to feed it.” The moment his intentions were laid bare, Mu Yunfeng spun and lunged for the door. Ghost Elder had expected it. With a flick of his hand, a burst of force slammed the door shut. The room instantly darkened. “Boy, you’re not escaping. Be obedient and hand over your blood!” Mu Yunfeng pressed his back against the door and forced himself to stay calm. “I belong to the Sect Master. You dare touch me?” Ghost Elder laughed coldly. “You really think you matter?” “You’re just a test subject. Replacements are endless.” “The Sect Master won’t care whether you live or die.” As he spoke, he reached out and grabbed for Mu Yunfeng. Before Mu Yunfeng could even see the movement clearly, he was already pinned against the door, fingers crushing his throat. Struggling for breath, Mu Yunfeng rasped: “The last man who thought that was Li Xiu.” “The Sect Master beat him until his head bled.” “Want to test your luck too?” The hand at his throat loosened slightly. Ghost Elder’s voice turned cold. “And who would know you died by my hand?” Mu Yunfeng stared straight into his eyes. “A disciple just came in for medicine.” “I crawled out alive from the Ten Thousand Insects Gu.” “The Sect Master values me greatly.” “Ten Thousand Insects Gu? You?” Ghost Elder was visibly shocked. Mu Yunfeng pressed the advantage. “Don’t you want to study that?” “If I die, you may never find another like me.” Even Lin Wanqiu was interested in the Ten Thousand Insects Gu. There was no reason this old man would not be. Ghost Elder slowly released him, his face dark and unreadable. “What are you trying to say?” Mu Yunfeng rubbed his neck. “You want to defeat her.” “So do I.” “I’ll still give you blood. As much as my body can safely endure, I’ll let you study it.” “I only have one condition.” Ghost Elder narrowed his eyes. “What condition?” Mu Yunfeng reached behind him, opened the door, and let sunlight spill into the room before answering: “Help me find a way to restore my meridians.”
