HAZEL
Kelly arrives around 9 am. Asher is long gone. I’ve freshened up and cleaned my corner of the room. I’m finishing up with a breakfast of cereal when Kelly waltzes in.
“Finally!” I exclaim, dumping my bowl with more force than is necessary. “Where the hell have you been?”
“Good morning to you too.” Kelly plops her back on her desk and does an air dive into her bed. She hums in pleasure.
“Sure. Go ahead and ignore me. Why do I bother to worry about you?”
“I’m sorry, okay?” She lifts herself up, groaning with the effort it takes to sit up. “I had a family emergency I needed to take care of. You know how it is. Whenever my dad summons, I have to answer.”
“What is it this time?”
“Oh nothing much. Just succession stuff.”
