***MICHAEL POV***
I couldn't believe that I have been this fortunate to meet such wonderful people on my first day on the job. I vowed to myself that I would make sure that I would keep them for as long as I could. Something about them made me feel like Juan was up here and the two of us were hanging out all the time. This thought made me look at my watch, and upon seeing that it was almost 9 at night in Illinois, I decided to FaceTime my parents. On the fourth ring, Dad answered!
"Hey Tiger, how are you tonight?" Dad excitedly asked. I've had the nickname of "Tiger" for as long as I can remember.
"I'm pretty good!" I responded. "Two new friends just left my house."
"Alright!" Dad shouted. "That's my boy! What are they like? What are their names?"
I smiled. I felt so thankful that Dad was as interested as he was. "Their names are Justin and Kristy Daniels. I work with Justin at school, and Kristy is his wife. They're both absolutely lovely people. Justin is a hell of a lot like me, and he seemed to have a genuine interest in what I was saying."
"That's good. It sounds like they are truly cool people. I'm glad you've met them," Mom chimed in.
"Thank you," I responded. "They made a really positive first step forward to being really awesome."
Just then, my phone buzzed. I opened the text message and saw it was from Justin. "You. Me. Kristy. Two other people that we'd like you to meet. Happy Hour. CharBar downtown. Burgers and brews on me. Good talk," it read. "And just like that, I'm hanging out with them again tomorrow! And they're introducing me to new people as well!" This is so awesome!" I stated excitedly, as I relayed the text that I had just gotten from Justin.
"All I have to ask is, 'when can we meet them?' They're going to have to live up to Terry and Steve's standards," Mom responded.
"Mom, Terry and Steve will love these two. Justin will fit right in with them," I laughed.
"Well, I'm glad you have had such a good day, Baby," Mom said with a yawn. "But we were actually going to bed, so we're going to have to cut it there. Good night, and I hope you have an awesome day tomorrow."
"Thanks, Mom! You too! I love you both!" I responded as I waved frantically into the FaceTime, and disconnected the call. I responded LFG to Justin, and bounced up the stairs, feeling lighter than I had in some time. I reached my bathroom for my nightly shower and shave, when I heard my phone buzz on the vanity counter.
"Hey Mikey, how's my handsome soulmate tonight?" the text read.
I quickly responded, who the f*****g f**k is this? and lathered up to shave. Right as I was about to put the blade to my face, the mystery texter responded, "your soulmate. I just told you that."
I activated text-to-talk on my phone and said, "Please lose this number as soon as you found it. I do not have a soulmate, and I'd probably reject her or say no to her if she threw herself at my feet. I don't know you, this conversation is over. Goodbye." I then put my razor down and blocked the number, going right along shaving. As I was shaving, I couldn't help but hear a growl from a massive dog right underneath my bathroom window. I glanced down below and yelled at the window, "go away right now! Get lost!" Luckily I heard the pawprints head back towards the woods, so I relaxed. I shaved, hopped into the shower with the lyrics to a new song in my head and sang out loud the whole time, and went to bed, excited for the next day.
***MIRA POV***
"Spirit, I swear to God, I'm not speaking to you for a f*****g week."
"Me? What the hell did I do?!" Spirit responded.
"You're seriously asking me that?! You scared our mate! He shooed us away from his property! We didn't get to listen to him sing! And besides, this is supposed to be our turn to patrol the grounds."
"You're right. I'm sorry. I just got angry. I thought he was rejecting us, and--"
"I'm going to stop you right there. He doesn't even know our name. He can't reject us if he doesn't have that little tidbit of information. I don't know who he was talking to, but I promise that I'll find out tomorrow evening."
That night went from wonderful to awful quickly. I had been making my rounds and listening to my Buggie--which is what I decided to call Michael as a pet name--laugh and talk to his parents all about Justin and Kristy, and how much I was going to like hanging out with all of them when I heard him send what I thought was an extremely heated text message. I knew he wasn't mad at me--I mean, how could he be--but then Spirit decided to growl loudly when she heard what he said, including the bit that he'd reject his soulmate if she threw himself at him.
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"It's okay, just please don't do that again."
I immediately headed to the woods and linked my sister Theresa to take over.
Why the hell would I do that? I don't like patrolling and I'm not scheduled to do so for another two days. I don't even plan on shifting until then, she stated. Theresa was on a mission to get rid of her wolf as soon as she could so she could be as average as possible, despite the fact that it would cost her her spot in the pack.
UGH!!! Theresa, please. I got kicked off my mate's property while I was patrolling it. Please help me out so I know that he's okay.
No. Well, little did she know that I had Mom in the link as well, and she came in and cleaned up.
Theresa, I command you, not as your mom but as your Luna, to do what your Princess Royale is asking you to do. Now shift and man a watch outside of the Alpha-in-Waiting's house right now.
I heard Theresa grunt as she shifted into her wolf and started heading out Michael's place. I linked Kristy.
Hey girl, you free for a moment?
Just getting out of the bath, she responded. I'm really sore. I swear to the Goddess above that Justin's baby is going to be a bowling ball and it's going to absolutely turn me into a hallway afterwards.
WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION!!! I complained, which caused her to laugh.
I know, and when you have pups, you'll get to say something just as ridiculous to me as that, she responded.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it. Anyhow, can I stop in your wing for a minute? I'm pissed at Spirit; you'll get a kick out of what she did.
Looking forward to it! she said and broke the link. I shifted back, put on the sundress I had in the backpack I kept stashed right under a tree by the packhouse. I then ran up to Kristy's room, right as she finished putting on her leggings for the night.
"Spirit growled and it got us shooed off of Michael's property. She claims that she heard him try to reject us, without realizing that she didn't know our names," I complained as I dramatically flopped down onto her bed.
"Yikes. That's not good. Why did she do that?" Kristy responded, looking exactly as curious as I figured she would be.
"I think Buggie got a weird text message and he was doing something that caused him to respond via text-to-talk, and we overheard what he said. Something about rejecting his soulmate if it came to that," I explained.
"Buggie?" Kristy asked, looking at me with a silly smile on her face, causing me to turn into a shade that was not at all unlike my favorite margarita mix.
"I'm going to give him the pet name "Buggie" when we become official. I've seen him and I've heard him sing. I just want him to be my cuddle bug right here, right now," I shyly explain.
Kristy hugged me. "That's so sweet, and I love how you're doting on him from afar. But don't worry, you'll get to meet him tomorrow."
I sighed. "I know. I just hope he likes me."
"He will. Of that, I have no doubt."
With that, I trudged off to bed, and passed out with little effort, excited for my "date" with Phil tomorrow, so I could meet "Buggie" in person.
***MICHAEL POV***
Day 2 wrapped up without a hitch, and soon it was time to hoist a few with Justin and Kristy. I put the CharBar in my GPS and off I went. I found them manning a booth, throwing darts, where it looked like Kristy was dominating in a game of 501.
"Justin, are you letting her win, or do you suck at life that much with darts in your hand. The last time I saw something that ugly, I looked at my brother Terry's 247 pound girlfriend with just a bikini on," I taunted, which made Kristy baptize her entire face with the glass of water she was drinking from and that made Justin's jaw hit the floor in mock offense.
"Michael, that was beautiful! I love it! No one has ever taunted him like that!" she said as she caught her breath.
"Well, that's what I'm good for," I replied, as I ordered a Celtic Sour when the waitress came and took my order.
"What's a Celtic Sour?" Justin asked as he threw a dart out of bounds.
"It's a whiskey sour with Irish Whiskey in it. I'm 100% Irish, so my beverages of choice at the bar reflect as much," I responded.
"Cool!" Kristy said, as she ended the game with a double bullseye, giving her a round of applause and that caused Justin to mockingly flip me off.
"Asshole," Justin muttered as he sat down with a smile on his face, knowing I was kidding the whole time.
"I have to keep you honest. I plan on doing so for years to come," I said proudly. "I hope you guys stay this close to me. I've never had such loyal friends like you two are quickly becoming."
"Aw! Thank you, Mike!" Kristy said, and teared up. "I don't know if it's the hormones or what, but that just made my day!"
"You're welcome!" I replied. I then looked at Justin. "You said you had two others meeting us here?"
"Yep! I just got a text from them, saying that they were walking in the bar right now. I'm getting their first round on us, Babe," he said to Kristy as he got up.
"Good! I just got paid, so no worries, Baby," she responded. While he was up, we engaged into some small talk, until he came back with the drinks. His movement caused me to look toward the entrance, when I saw someone who I could only think was an angel coming into the bar.
She looked to be about my height with the brightest blonde hair I had ever seen, braided carefully in a French braid with not a single hair out of place. Her eyes looked warm and friendly, and her plump lips parted into a smile when she saw Justin. There was something about her that just made me want to run up and kiss her.
"Uh, Kristy?" I whispered to her next to me. "Who is that girl?"
