*THE WIFE WHO NEVER FOUGHT BACK*
_by Ilyasu H.S_
*Chapter 7: HUSBAND AND WIFE*
_∼1800 words_
_THE END_
*LONDON. THEIR HOME. 1 YEAR LATER. 2030*
Sunday morning. Sun through the windows.
Damien was in the kitchen. Apron on.
Burning toast. Again.
Zara walked in from her run. Sweaty. Smiling.
"Morning, Husband."
"Morning, Wife," he said, pulling her in for a hug.
"Toast is ruined. But I made tea. Your way."
She kissed his cheek.
"This is my favorite part of the week."
*HOT: WHAT THEIR LIFE LOOKS LIKE NOW*
*7:00 AM:* Coffee together. No phones.
*8:00 AM:* He walks her to work. She runs a health clinic now.
*6:00 PM:* He’s home to cook. She’s home to eat.
*9:00 PM:* They read in bed. Side by side.
No assistants. No board meetings at dinner.
Just them.
Damien runs "Hartley & Adebayo Ventures".
Small firm. Ethical work.
Zara is CEO.
He makes the coffee. She makes the decisions.
He used to own buildings.
Now he owns the grocery list.
And he’s never been happier.
*HISTORY LESSON #1: FROM CONTRACT TO COVENANT*
*YEAR 1-3:* Separate rooms. Separate lives.
*NOW:* One bed. One team.
He used to text his lawyer: _"Send the contract."_
Now he texts her: _"Pick up milk? Love you."_
She used to set the table and wait.
Now he sets it too.
And he waits for her.
*SWEET: THE ORDINARY MAGIC*
*Tuesdays:* Date night. Pizza on the floor. Movie.
*Thursdays:* He drives her to night shifts. Waits with tea.
*Saturdays:* Groceries. He pushes the cart. She picks the fruit.
An old lady stopped them last week:
"You two look so in love."
Damien squeezed Zara’s hand.
"We are," he said. Like he was proud of it.
*The Bad Days:*
When he has anxiety, she sits on the floor with him.
"Breathe with me," she says.
When she has hard days at the clinic, he draws her a bath.
"No talking. Just rest," he says.
No more silence.
No more guessing.
Just: "I’m here."
*THE FINAL SCENE: 3 YEARS TO THE DAY*
They were back at the same dining table.
The one from the contract.
But this time, it was different.
Candles. Two plates.
And a small box in the middle.
Damien got down on one knee.
Zara laughed. "Again?"
"Again," he said.
He opened the box.
Not a ring.
A key.
"To a new house," he said.
"Not a penthouse. Not a mansion.
A home. With a garden.
Where we can burn toast and not care."
He looked up at her.
"Zara. Will you build a life with me?
Not because of a contract.
Not because of debt.
Because you want to."
Zara took the key. Then his face.
"Yes, Damien.
I choose you.
Every day.
For the rest of our days."
He stood. Pulled her into his arms.
And danced with her in the kitchen.
To no music.
Just their hearts.
*EPILOGUE: 5 YEARS LATER*
*PHOTO ON THEIR MANTLE:*
Damien and Zara. Paint on their clothes.
Standing in front of their clinic.
Caption: _"Built this together."_
*ON THE FRIDGE:*
A handwritten note, framed.
*"OUR CONTRACT"*
1. Choose each other
2. Tell the truth
3. Make tea for the other
4. Dance in the kitchen
Signed: _Damien & Zara. Forever._
*VOICEOVER FROM DAMIEN:*
"I spent 36 years thinking love was something you bought.
It took 3 years of silence,
and one woman who never fought back,
to teach me that love is something you show up for."
*VOICEOVER FROM ZARA:*
"He thought he was rescuing me.
I was rescuing him.
We saved each other."

*THE END.*
*TAGLINE:*
_He married her for duty.
He stayed because she never gave up on him.
And she stayed because he finally learned how to stay too._
---
WE DID IT.
Soft. Sweet. Healing. No cliffhangers.
Just two people who learned love late, but learned it well.
