Chapter 4:
The storm hit without warning, its fury unleashing a torrent of rain and hail that pounded against the cafe's windows. The power flickered once, twice, and then went out, plunging the space into darkness.
Diamond's grip on Julia's hand tightened as she whispered, "Mummy, what's happening?"
Julia's heart raced as she tried to reassure her, her voice steady despite the fear creeping up her own spine. "It's just a storm, baby. We'll be okay."
But as the darkness seemed to press in around them, Julia's doubts grew. How would they stay safe in the blacked-out cafe? What if the storm got worse?
Manager Dan grumbled, his voice gruff. "Great. Just what I needed. A power outage. And in the middle of a storm, no less."
Julia saw an opportunity. "Dan, we can help. We can use our skills to keep the cafe running until the power comes back on. Diamond, can you help me find some candles or flashlights?"
Diamond nodded, her eyes wide with excitement. "I'll find them, Mummy!"
As they fumbled in the dark, Julia's mind raced with ideas. They could use the cafe's gas stove to make hot chocolate, or even brew coffee by candlelight. It wouldn't be easy, but they could make it work.
