Chapter 15:
Diamond's tiny hand touched Julia's stomach. "I'm hungry, Mommy. Let's go downstairs, baby."
Julia smiled, following Diamond's gaze to the stairs. The delicious aroma of toast wafted up, making her stomach growl in response.
As they entered the kitchen, Alex looked up, a warm smile on his face. "Perfect timing! Toast is ready."
Julia's eyes met Alex's, a hint of apology in her voice. "You should have called me, Alex. I didn't want to disturb you."
Alex chuckled, placing a slice of toast on a plate. "You're not disturbing me, Julia. You're my guests. Make yourself at home."
Diamond's eyes lit up at the sight of the toast, and she eagerly took a bite, her hunger momentarily forgotten.
Alex called out, "Lucas, come down! Toast is ready!"
Lucas trudged into the kitchen, his eyes avoiding Diamond's. "Sorry about earlier," he muttered, taking a seat beside Julia.
Diamond smiled, her eyes sparkling with forgiveness. "It's okay, Lucas. Friends?"
Lucas ignored and then nods his face, a small smile creeping onto his face. "Friends."
Alex handed Lucas a slice of toast, and they sat down together, the tension in the kitchen dissipating as they shared a warm and comfortable breakfast.
