A puzzle to put back together “After what I’ve heard about you, I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks you’re a perfect asshole,” she continues, uninhibited by alcohol, and hits me with every word she shoots my way, even if illogically at that moment. It looks like they’re archived in a remote corner of her memory, ready to spring out at the earliest opportunity. Still, I smile because I’ve never seen her so spontaneous. “Helen doesn’t think I am”. “Helen’s biased. She’s worked for you way too long to own up to it”. She grimaces. “You don’t deserve a woman that kind by your side one bit; I’d have left a long time ago already,” she nods, now out of control. “You’re right. I should fire all my staff and get by all on my own, but that would cause them problems, don’t you find?”
