Lemar anger suddenly subsided when he saw the sudden fragileness of his mate. He was about to touch her but something made her step back as if he turned into a monster. It hurt him but he stood his ground since he wanted to know and understand her reason whatever it might be.
“Sage, you're a witch, and you might seen already what I’ve been through so please, share with me whatever runs in your beautiful mind and your heart.” Lemar softly told Jennie and he was very sincere as he tried to hide the guilt that he felt when he showed her waver.
“I-I have my r-reason.” Her voice quivered a little and Lemar noticed it. His anger went away in a flash and he sighed softly as he followed Jennie out of the bathroom with nothing aside from a boxer and bathrobe.
“Then tell me. I’m all ears.” He went closer and gently pulled Jennie’s chin to meet his eyes as he tried to read what lay beyond his mate’s mind. “So, make me understand. You’re not alone on this.”
“I know you will but are you fully ready to hear them?” Jennie looked at Lemar with so many emotions that he could not phantom what are those. They were all overlapping with each other.
“I…” he could not find any right word to say.
“Are you, Lemar?” she sternly asked and before Lemar could speak, Jennie Sage asked her more. “Or are you just asking because of the pull that you’re feeling for me as we’re mates?”
“What’s the difference it will make if it came from it? Tell me.” he wondered but insisted to know.
“Then do you think I would love you because of the mate bond pull between us?” she countered with a question making Lemar a bit confused but he slightly had a grasp of what Jennie was trying to say to him.
“Sage, are you saying…” he could not finish his words when his mate stepped backward and sadly smiled at him.
“Lemar, I don’t want to love you just because of the mate bond that we had. I hope you understand that.” She stated her reason to her mate as her tears fell when she never easily cried in front of anyone.
Lemar could feel the fright and fragileness of Jennie Sage over the matter of their hearts. He could tell that it was a sensitive topic for her that shouldn’t be taken lightly. But what made him smile in relief was the care that his mate had for what type of mate bond they were having.
“Say something, Lemar…” Jennie sounded pleading and lost and Lemar showed a smile that he thought he had forgotten.
“Sorry about that, I spaced out for a bit.” Lemar sincerely apologized and it made Jennie a bit puzzled.
“What for?” she wondered what he meant by it.
“I’m thinking about how caring my mate is.” He honestly answered making his mate’s cheeks turn a little bit red before he continued. “Sage, I might not be fully aware of how the mate bond really works for night creatures but I can assure you something…”
Jennie Sage nodded as she waited for what her mate was trying to assure her about. “We might be attracted to each other due to the mate bond pull like a love at first sight in human language but if you want to go further and we’re still on the same page over this matter of our hearts, let’s get to know even more. So whatever your reason you have, tell me about them and I will try my best to understand where are you coming from.”
After hearing that from her mate, Jennie chuckled slightly. “Then I’ll be honest with you what lies behind all of my reasons.”
With a soft smile from Jennie Sage, she went to the garden and Lemar watched her as she glanced over the moonlight. He watched his mate and only found himself so fascinated with her. He had a very strong feeling of needing to know his mate even deeper and he knew then, Jennie Sage was something more to him.
“It was like old times but even more…” Lemar muttered to himself as he forgot that Jennie could hear them like crystal.
“Have you heard a message that love is patient, love is kind?” Jennie suddenly asked but she never turned to look at Lemar and yet, she was smiling gently.
“Yeah, what about it?” he answered but wondered.
“Then recite it to me.” She gently said.
“O-okay?” Lemar might be confused but agreed and started reciting them to her. “Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, conceited, or proud. Love is not ill-manner selfish or irritable. Love does not keep a record of wrongs. Love is not happy with evil but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up and its faith, hope, and patience never fall.”
After hearing it, Jennie smiled as she turned to meet Lemar’s gaze. “No matter what the meaning of love is to a person, that’s the most simple thing to describe a real face of love.” Lost in Lemar’s gaze, Jennie continued what she was about to say. “I don’t want to love you because of the mate bond. I’d rather love you for who you are as a hunter, wolf shifter, or whatever you might turn into. I need love, Lemar. A kind of love that’s selfless, unconditional, and true that can’t be restricted or bound into something that will limit it. Love is eternal and many words weren’t even enough to describe it.”
Lemar was left speechless when Jennie Sage said those words that kept clicking inside of his heart. For some reason, his tears have fallen already on his face without him noticing it. It just fell and all of what he felt before came rushing into his body. The love that he once had in him was slowly returning to him through Jennie, his second mate.
“Sage…” Lemar muttered causing him to wobble as he went closer to her but before he could even get near Jennie, he fell on his knees. “I know I shouldn’t compare you to her. I should know better because I know you’re something more. I know it and I’m scared of love yet I yearn for it.”
“You’re crying.” Jennie smiled lovingly at him and kneeled in front of him.
“I don’t know why I’m crying…” he honestly told her and Jennie saw her mate’s vulnerability for the first time. “Sage, you made me feel something I didn’t feel before, and love it but I’m scared of it. I’m scared of loving you too much. I’m scared of what I can do because of this feeling. I’m new to this.”
“Lemar, I am too. I’m scared of this but I’m glad that I’ve seen and heard your vulnerability over this matter.” She softly smiled and caressed Lemar’s crying face that she kept wiping away. “Let’s not jump on the whirlwind of our feelings but together, let’s sail smoothly on the ocean of our blooming feelings.”
“How can you be so calm and positive over this, us?” he was sniffing as he asked while Jennie chuckled.
“Us…I like the sound of it.” She even admitted to liking the word ‘us’ between them.
“Sage.” He pouted making Jennie pinched gently the top of his nose.
“So, there will be an ‘us’ between us.” She simply answered but she explained more so her mate would understand where she was coming from. “Lemar, I don’t want to rush things between us. I have to be patient and take care of this. So, let’s go on the process and step by step on knowing each other, are you okay with that?”
“Then can I have your word to not let me go no matter what?” With his vulnerable and sensitive side still on, Lemar wanted some assurance so he asked her directly.
“Yes, you can,” Jennie answered without a doubt.
Lemar got attracted even more to Jennie’s positivity and found himself relief because of the light that his mate was providing without her realizing it. To Lemar, meeting Jennie Sage was a beckon of bright light that inspired his heart over something that has been locked ever since he lost his lover.
“Finally, I understand your reasons and why you're acting like you're going to reject me anytime.” Lemar released a heavy sigh but was relieved.
“Do I?” Jennie chuckled.
“You sounded like you do.” He countered while pouting.
“I am not. I just…argh! I don’t want to repeat my explanation it might sound like a broken stereo.” She glared and was about to explain it again but didn’t continued.
“HAHAHA!” Lemar laughed but softly looked at Jennie with so much affection and love in them. “But next time, share them with me for whatever reason you may have along the run. I intend to overthink things and most of them were negative, so, yeah, please do tell me.”
“Fine, whatever.” She tried to hide her feelings again but Lemar could see past through it already.
“Let’s get to know more than just a mate bond.” Lemar pulled Jennie closer to him and placed a lingering kiss on her temple. “And don’t ever let me go, no matter what.”
Jennie loves the affection that Lemar is sending from that kiss. “Take care of me, Lemar Clarkson.”
“Same goes for you, Jennie Sage Groban.” He put his temple against his mate and savored the moment that they were having there.
As the witch’s reason was finally revealed and cleared up, Lemar pulled a little and let himself lose in his mate’s steady gaze. They were both moving closer and nearly tasted each other’s lips but in a split second, it changed. Lemar’s chin met Jennie’s hard punch causing him to stumble backward and fall on the ground. He glanced over at his mate and growled.
“What was that for?” Lemar groaned while easing the pain that he received.
“T-TOO CLOSE! ARGH! YOUR SCENT!” Jennie blushed and covered it with annoyance before storming off back inside the cabin while covering her entire face. “I’M OUT OF HERE!”
Lemar watched her back disappear and he found himself smiling like he used to. “She’s cute when she flushes like that.” then lay down on the grassy garden as he looked over the moonlight. “I need a lasting love and not a passing love.”
But on the other hand, while Lemar was relaxing and savoring their moment in the garden, Jennie Sage had to get out of the cabin. She immediately went to the other side of the cabin’s perimeter and the opposite side of the garden. She went there to catch some refreshing air since her chest was getting tight. She knew that her body needed to replenish and circulate her energy better. If she won’t, she might suck anyone’s life later.
“I have to calm down. It's too hot there.” Jennie muttered to herself and started on meditation.
