ELENA'S POV Every weapon on the left side of the rack was compromised. Seraphine moved down the line with the focused efficiency of someone who had been betrayed before and knew exactly what to look for. Each blade examined, turned, held to the light, set aside. The holy water vials checked for dilution. The silver-tipped stakes tested for integrity. By the time she reached the end of the rack the pile of compromised weapons was larger than the pile of intact ones. "How many?" I asked. "Fourteen blades," she said. "All twelve holy water vials.
