With the moon dancing between dark gray clouds, Jaxson made his way out of the village and headed East. He knew to find the Dark Cavern, Jaxson would have to trek over mountains and uneven terrain that was off the main path. The archer trotted at a steady pace and quickly came upon large uneven boulders. He pressed his legs off against them to carry his momentum up the hill. One by one, he climbed and scurried over the boulders. It was times like these that he was thankful for his light armor as he tried to catch his breath but if he stopped moving then the gravel and sliding rocks would carry him down the hill. Jaxson finally made it to the top of the hill and sat on a ledge to catch his breath. Minutes later he was ready to go as he trekked along a narrow dirt road along the edge of a mountain. He tried not to look down as his stomach became queasy. When he did manage a peek down, he saw jagged rocks and dead trees that became encased by the rocks. The fall would kill him. It was better if he didn’t look down the rest of the journey. Jaxson slowly climbed along the mountain trail. Enemy encounter! Would you like to fight? Jaxson dismissed the HUD. It was a level 2 wraith and he wouldn’t gain anything from fighting it. The archer arrived at a small clearing. He could feel the small raindrops start to fall as he continued onto a wider trail that quickly became muddy. Loose sand carried the water over his feet as he focused on digging his feet into the ground. He didn’t have far to go now as he veered right and ducked under a log that was balancing on two boulders. Jaxson treaded carefully as torchlight appeared nearby. He saw an Undead Ghoul pacing around the entrance of Dark Cavern as two torches framed the entrance. Jaxson notched a steel arrow onto his short bow and waited. The ghoul came around the corner and that was all Jaxson needed as he let the arrow fly. He watched as the steel flew through the ghoul’s neck. The undead choked in his blood before falling to the ground in a heap of skeletons. Level 4 Undead Ghoul Eliminated! 43 Experience Points! 23 Gems! Jaxson waited a few more seconds to see if a second ghoul was patrolling but saw none so he headed to the entrance. He opened the heavy wooden door and stepped into darkness. Jaxson stepped into a monstrous foyer with concrete pillars raised to the ceiling. On each pillar was a skull with dried blood. He choked on the stagnant air that lingered with death. A few torches lined the cavern with light. Jagged rocks protruded from walls as roots were deeply forged into the hard-packed ground. He treaded carefully as he didn’t want to be taken by surprise. The undead were surprisingly nimble. Just as he had jumped over some deep roots, an Undead Ghoul jumped on his back. Jaxson shook him off and withdrew his dagger and stabbed the ghoul in its open mouth. Level 3 Undead Ghoul Eliminated! 25 Experience Points! 15 Gems! Jaxson’s experience bar grew as he grew to Level 4. His agility, health and defense rose as he continued through the Dark Cavern. He made it through the first set of doors without further incident. The archer came to great hall. Wooden tables were splintered and charred as he saw bones littered over the floor. Near the back wall, Jaxson found a metal chest that he looted. 259 Gems added to inventory. He searched the hall for anymore valuable items but didn’t see any as he made his way out another wooden door. Two Undead Ghouls were waiting for him once he opened the door. Jaxson quickly notched an arrow and watch it hit the further ghoul in the ribs. He then withdrew his dagger and sliced the legs off the nearest one and watched as both became a pile of bones. Level 4 and Level 5 Undead Ghouls Eliminated! 65 Experience Points! 32 Gems! Jaxson followed the twisted path in front of him. Jagged walls and deep roots flowed through this part of Dark Cavern as well. Jaxson felt a pain in his calf as he stopped and look. Darts were shooting out of the walls. He had stepped on a trap. Jaxson wasn’t prepared for this, but he knew it had to do with the recalled hardware that he acquired. He was light on his feet as he jumped and scurried out of the way until he came safely into a small corridor. Jaxson crawled through the tight spaced corridor until he came upon a small crate. He kicked the crate into splinters and was able to stand up. He walked a little deeper into the cavern before coming to an iron door.
