“So, let me get this straight,” Jaxson stood in the back room of the inn. “If you die at any point in the game then you have to start over.”
“That is correct,” the squeaky voiced orc nodded. “Plus, you can’t leave the game until you beat it so we are stuck here in a continuous loop until we beat the game.”
Jaxson was speechless. He knew now why this Crystal’s Edge hardware was recalled. He would have to beat this game quickly.
“You sure do know a lot about how this game works. Why is that?”
“I am not proud of it, but I am one of those born-again players,” the orc looked depressed. “I only died once but I was level 45 when I died. Then I saw how skillful you took down a level 5 monster on your very first quest and I thought you were one of those players as well.”
“In a way I kind of am,” Jaxson explained. “But I won’t get into details with you right now. How is the game beat?”
“Once you reach level 100 you have to defeat the final boss,” the orc said. “The boss is the creator of Crystal’s Edge. Every 20 levels you gain, you have a chance to defeat smaller bosses that are scattered throughout the world. These bosses are optional but if you win, they drop great loot.”
‘Okay so that part hasn’t changed since last time I played,’ Jaxson was lost in his thoughts. ‘The only thing that is different is the fact that no one can leave until they defeat the game and if you die then you have to start over losing everything.’
“Well I have to go level up as much as I can and get stronger,” the orc smiled at Jaxson. “The name is Dylin.”
“My name is Jaxson. Thanks for all the information it was helpful. Good luck in the game and maybe I will catch you later.”
Jaxson watched Dylin leave the inn, but he was still consumed in his thoughts. ‘With this new rule or glitch or whatever is causing this, I have to be careful on what quests I choose. I will use as much of my knowledge about this game to level up quickly and get advanced armor and weapons, so I can defeat this boss quickly and get out of here.’
Jaxson glanced over at the Quest Board to see if any quests had popped up. Seeing that they didn’t, Jaxson decided to leave the inn too. He knew a larger town not far from where he was that had more quests.
