The records hall was not empty anymore.
Six wolves.
Standing in the main corridor when Mara came up the stairs with Caius and Zane behind her.
Not Ironveil wolves.
She could tell immediately.
The way they stood. The way they looked at her. The specific stillness of people who had been sent with instructions and were following them precisely.
She stopped.
Both men stopped behind her.
The six wolves looked at her.
At the ring on her finger.
At the bond sitting visible between all three of them.
The one at the front said:
"Mara Voss."
"Yes," she said.
"You need to come with us."
"No," she said.
He looked at her.
"That was not a request," he said.
"I know," she said. "My answer is still no."
