Nobody moved for exactly one second.
Then everybody moved at once.
Caius had his jacket on before Mara found her shoes.
Zane was already in the corridor.
Edmund stood in the doorway with rain still dripping from his hair and his face doing the controlled pale thing that meant the information he was carrying was worse than the one word he had delivered.
Mara looked at him.
"What else," she said.
Edmund looked at Caius.
Then back at her.
"The Elder requested something," he said carefully. "Before the trial begins."
