It happened fast.

One moment they were on the steps outside the Gathering Hall.
The next Zane was gone.

Not with a fight or a struggle or a sound.
He simply stepped back to take a call from Lena and when Mara turned around thirty seconds later he was not there.
Just the empty space where he had been.
And his phone on the ground.
Mara looked at the phone.
At the cracked screen.
At the empty space.
She felt the bond.
She felt him through it.

But moving.
Fast.

"Caius," she said.
He was already looking at the phone.

His wolf completely forward.
