CHAPTER FOUR

1187 Words
Liam glanced at the sky as he drove, the sky was surprisingly blue, more than it was in his country. He smiled as he drove, his father would have a fit if he knew he was driving himself in a strange country but then that was the plan, to come and breathe in fresh air. Something different from where he was coming from. His plane had landed three hours ago and he decided to get to his apartment years ago.. He tightened his hands on the steering as he remembered why he bought the the building. His ex wife had always hinted the desire to own an apartment at that part of the globe. He bought it weeks before she ended the relationship. He thought about her for her moment as he did every single day since they got divorced. He had every reason to hate her, ending a relationship of two years with no valid reason. She didn't even wait to present the documents to him. She left it in his room and left, he signed it and gave it to her lawyer. He didn't see a need to hold onto her but now as he drove to the apartment he bought for her.. he wish he hadn't signed it. His chest tightened as he thought about it The least she could have done was explained things to him. Shaking his head, he turned to the left road following the map. He was 20 minutes to the apartment. He had employed a woman to clean the house regularly, he wanted to meet her in person and check the house before he brought in the realtor to check it out. It's been 7 months already and it was time to move on. The traffic eased and he stepped on the gas, he has to be there early if he had plans to meet the house help. Liam played soft music as he took in the environment. Like his Ex wife had always argued, London was no doubt a beautiful place to be. The serenity was something he could get used to. His eye caught a movement by the road and he glanced, His ex wife?. He shook his head as he considered the probability of her being in London. The last time he saw her was the night before she left, he remembered her looking so stressed. The thought always baffled him. They had been together for years, how she moved from a happy woman to a sad sickly woman was something he still found hard to understand . Liam wouldn't dispute the fact that he had been busy the week before but he didn't expect that rapid change. He drove gently next to the lady. She had a black bag at her right hand as she walked by the road, she seemed lost in thoughts. She had a striking resemblance to his Ex wife even though he only had her back view. He contemplated parking his car to speak to her, if it was his Ex wife, she had a lot of questions to answer. He was parking already when she turned and he noticed her bulge. She was pregnant!. Recovering from the shock really early, he hissed and drove off, His ex wife wasn't pregnant, her inability to have a child was what he guessed to be the reason she left him. They'd had misunderstandings since she couldn't conceive few months after the wedding. She had changed into a different person, always nagging at him to go for a Sperm test. He went for the test and the results only confirmed how healthy he was as a man. That had upset her as he remembered coming home on many occasions to find her crying in the bathroom with a pregnancy strip. Liam did all he could in the two years they stayed together just so she could have a child, all to no avail. They had visited the most expensive hospitals, undergone IVF yet nothing worked. He blinked back tears as he thought about those times. They'd been dark times for them cause gradually his wife transformed into a woman he didn't know and eventually, she left. A part of him ached and he sighed deeply, he missed her. He had tried all he could to reach her after she left but somehow, it was as if she disappeared into thin air. She was an orphan, with a step mother and sister who did nothing but made her life miserable. He couldn't reach out to them because he was sure they wouldn't tell him if they knew her whereabouts A green dot on the map blinked, signifying he had gotten to his destination. He parked the car and got out. He stood in front of the huge house and grinned. He did a good work. He locked his door and walked to the door. He could hear sounds from inside but there was nobody outside. He knocked on the door, once, twice and it was yanked open as a beautiful lady stepped out. He was started for a moment, regaining his composure, he flashed her a killer smile and said unevenly. "I'm sorry but who are you.?" She looked confused for a while and suddenly her face brightened up as if she remembered something. Bowing her head, she thrust out her hand. "I'm Hellen Kepler, The housemaid". Her voice was high pitched and attractive. It was a voice he would not have forgotten if he had heard it once. He had spoken to the housemaid a few times and she sounded older than this lady did. Frowning slightly, he said the first thing that came to his head. "You're not the housemaid!" "Really? You think?" She drawled nonchalantly "Yes, I believe so". "Would you like to come in.?" She opened the door widely to reveal the sitting room. Was she really inviting him into his own house? She looked like she knew what she was doing and he didn't want to create a scene so he stepped in. The house was beautiful and looked new, he had his contractor renovate it, when he bought it he could swear the house had been there unattended to for years. it was also clean, he had no doubt the Maid had been there, he missed her but who was this woman? He sat down and she walked to the kitchen, she came out with a bottle of wine moments later. She dropped it on the table and sat beside him. "I'm Cindy" she said as she admired her long nails, he grimaced as he looked at it, be hated long nails. She didn't say anything again so be assumed she expected him to know who she was from the name so he muttered the name as he tried to place a face to it. "Cindy.... Cindy?!" He remembered. She was his family's secretary. She worked at their house. He turned to look at her and knew what was up. His mum had sent her here knowing he had plans to stay a while before leasing out the house.
