I didn’t have the energy to fight them. And if I stayed in my office, I would have checked my phone every three minutes, waiting for Sera to message me. So, a beer, just one, felt like a safer alternative. The bar was dimly lit, the amber glow of hanging lamps cast warm shadows across the wooden countertops and brick walls. Hollow Crown wasn’t exactly lively on weeknights, but that suited me fine. I liked the quiet.
