✤ Adrian ✤ I hadn’t planned on going to the café that afternoon. It was one of those in-between hours, the awkward space between lectures where time stretched thin and restless. I told myself I would grab a quick bite, maybe skim through my notes for my next class, and pretend my mind wasn’t constantly circling the same person like a bruise I kept pressing. I was halfway across the quad when I saw the familiar glass windows of the café and decided, against my better judgment, to step inside. That was my first mistake. The place was busy, filled with overlapping voices and the hiss of the espresso machine. I scanned the room out of habit, not looking for anything in particular. And then I saw her.
