Chapter 2: Taboo Heartbeat

855 Words
Since that fierce confrontation, Evelyn and Alex often flashed in each other's minds. Although Evelyn was annoyed by Alex's provocation, the determination and wildness revealed in his amber eyes made her unforgettable. And whenever Alex recalled Evelyn's cold and arrogant face and smart figure, an inexplicable emotion surged in his heart. This emotion quietly took root in his heart, which surprised and delighted him. A few days passed, and Evelyn struggled to survive in the forest. She relied on her vampire agility to catch small animals such as hares and squirrels to satisfy her hunger, and at night she roosted in caves or on the tops of tall trees to avoid dangers in the dark. However, one time she accidentally stepped into the edge of a swamp, and the muddy land instantly held her feet tightly. The more she struggled, the faster she sank. Evelyn was terrified, and she tried to use her vampire power to break free, but she was unable to do so due to the exhaustion of the past few days. Just when she was desperate, Alex came like a gust of wind. It turned out that when he was hunting nearby, he keenly sensed Evelyn's breath. After noticing something strange, he ran over without hesitation. Seeing Evelyn trapped in the swamp, he was anxious and quickly untied the rope around his waist, tied one end firmly to the tree, and threw the other end to Evelyn, shouting: "Catch it!" Evelyn raised her head, her eyes full of surprise and gratitude. She reached out and grabbed the rope tightly. Alex tried his best to pull her out of the swamp little by little. Evelyn collapsed to the ground, breathing heavily, her body covered with mud and water, looking miserable. Alex walked forward, squatted down, his eyes full of concern: "Are you okay?" Evelyn looked at the wolf prince in front of her, who was supposed to be her nemesis, with mixed feelings in her heart. After a long time, she said softly: "Thank you." Alex shook his head slightly, and a faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth: "I didn't expect that the proud vampire princess would be so embarrassed." Although it was a teasing, there was no malice in his tone. Since then, their encounters have become more frequent. Once, Evelyn was drinking water by the stream, and Alex came quietly. He looked at Evelyn's back and said softly, "This stream water is icy cold, can you vampires stand it?" Evelyn did not turn around, but just replied lightly, "I'm used to it." The two sat side by side by the stream, looking at the gurgling stream, and fell into silence for a while. The moonlight was like water, pouring down on the open space in the forest, covering this quiet place with a layer of silver gauze. Evelyn was wearing a simple black dress, the hem of which fluttered gently in the wind, like a night elf. Alex was wearing a loose white linen shirt and dark leather trousers, looking casual and free and easy. They strolled in the moonlight and unknowingly came to a sea of flowers. The colorful flowers shimmered in the moonlight, exuding bursts of rich fragrance. Evelyn was attracted by the beauty in front of her, and her eyes showed rare tenderness and joy. She squatted down gently, stretched out her hand to touch the delicate petals, and murmured to herself: "I haven't seen such beautiful flowers for a long time." Alex stood aside, watching her quietly, his heart full of tenderness. Suddenly, a hare jumped out from the flowers. Evelyn was startled and subconsciously leaned towards Alex. Alex took advantage of the situation and put his arm around her shoulders, comforting her softly: "Don't be afraid, I'm here." Their eyes met, and time seemed to stand still at this moment. Under the moonlight, the two faces became more and more distinct, with stars twinkling in Evelyn's purple eyes and warm fire in Alex's amber eyes. They couldn't help but move closer, their breathing was audible, and their heartbeats intertwined. Just when their lips were about to touch, Evelyn suddenly woke up, and she pushed Alex away in panic, her cheeks flushed, her eyes full of panic and self-blame. "We can't do this... the hatred between the two tribes..." Evelyn said in a trembling voice. Alex was also confused. He knew that this relationship violated the old hatred between the two tribes, but the emotions in his heart were like a surging tide and could not be suppressed. “I understand, but I can’t control my heart…” Alex looked at Evelin, his eyes full of helplessness and affection. Evelin bit her lip, turned around and ran away, leaving Alex standing alone in the sea of flowers, looking in the direction she left, unable to come back to his senses for a long time. The intimate contact that night, like the sweet and bitter f*******n fruit, made the two fall into a deeper emotional entanglement. They didn't know how to face this f*******n love, and the road ahead was full of confusion and unknown.
