It all began when their stars crossed after an earthquake happened in the city of Indiana not quite long. None of them ever knew or wondered that another world was existing under the earth until that natural incident opened their eyes to its existence.
Don Perusky's parents were from red - Indians and Finnish backgrounds. This made him a European and American mixed blood at the same time, in an ever evolving world of human relationships beyond physical borders, religious beliefs and cultural lifestyles. His father came from a lineage of warriors well known among Indianapolis inhabitants in the days of yore as powerful charmers. He lives in the neighbourhood of Harmony, and the folks did not know who he truly was, until the hands of destiny began to use him to do things that surprised them.
His father, Amitab Perusky was a famous conjurer who liked performing different magical experiments to protect himself and his loved ones from both foreseen and unforeseen dangers. This made him to be highly adored like a god among his people. He hardly turned down any request for spiritual assistance from his folks as they trooped in every day to ask for one service or another. He did not have the chance to live a social life among the locals and scarcely had time for any love relationship with the opposite s*x. But many beautiful young ladies were head over heels in love with him, wanting to be his partner for life as he was a well-built handsome bloke with a muscular physique of six feet and five inches height.
One particular sunny Sunday as the sun was turning golden red to rest in her lover's arms in the western hemisphere, a charming lady of inestimable beauty walked into Amitab's temple to seek for his help to get a suitor she could call her own.
"Your lordship Amitab, l greet you with all the honour that l can muster from the bottom of my heart," the lady said.
"I am just a messenger of the gods of my ancestors. I am not a lord. You are welcome to my humble place," he replied.
"Thank you for welcoming me. I know you are a very busy person, so I won't bore you with the jeremaid of my love life."
"You are not far from the truth if you say l am a very busy person. But feel free to express your thoughts as much as you like because, it is better to know the details of a problem in order to find a permanent solution for it, rather than merely scratching the surface."
"That is generous of you."
"Now, let's get the ball rolling. However, you have not yet properly introduced yourself to me."
"Sorry about that. The worries in my mind have made me lose my sense of protocols. Please, don't be offended."
"I am not offended at all. It is one of those things that usually happen when the heart is an ocean of sadness. It makes one forget some processes of doing certain required things at times."
"I am Cleopatra Tree. My great grandparents were among the first generation of Finland folks who migrated from Europe to America about two centuries ago. According to a story my parents told me before they passed on ten years ago, beauty runs in our family, which makes its women one of the most sought after by men of means and power. I will be 30-year-old this month, but could you believe that l have never been kissed by a man ever since my teenage till now? Though men naturally admire and wow at my beauty, none has ever asked me out for a date yet. Why is my case different, when other lesser beauties are having dating sprees with different men as they liked?" She had said, with sadness written over her face like the atmosphere of sorrowful clouds.
"ls that all?" He asked her, while looking deeply into her arresting eyes that looked like that of a cat shining in darkness.
"Yes, my lordship," she answered.
"Hmm. You seem to have forgotten that l don't like to be addressed as a lord. I am not a lord to anybody. I am just a human being doing his quota to assist others with the gifts God gave me for the benefit of mankind through the assistance of our various traditional gods."
"I am sorry about that. I will address you henceforth as Sir Amitab, if that is okay by you," she apologized and suggested simultaneously.
"Alright then."
After that, he brought out a pentagram shaped piece of cloth made up of four different colours that represents the four cardinal points of the world. It comprised colours such as blue, red, white and black. He placed it on the bare floor of the temple built with mahogany.
"Pankini pankini panpanpankini! Cleopatra Cleopatra Cleocleocleopatra!" The charmer uttered at the beginning of his invocations.
He then looked deeply into her eyes as if they were the gateways where the mystical powers he intended to employ to solve her problem would come from. At that point, she wondered about what "Pankini" means. Is it one of the names of American Halloween gods or that of aboriginal Indians? She thought within her mind as his gaze was still focused on her face for about two minutes that looked like a century to her. She waved that thought aside and said inwardly to herself that it was none of her business to think or worry about whatever names he calls to get a solution for her problem. All humans are spirits buried in the flesh. The world itself is a mysterious place that nobody has been able to totally explain the reason why some people achieve success with little effort while others work harder but scarcely see the deserved results of their hard work. Some claim that karmic debts caused by ancestors usually hinder the progress of the new generation of born children. If so, does that mean she could be a victim of her ancestral karmic debts? She pondered while looking composed under the unblinking eyes of the charmer.
The mahogany temple was built in a rectangular shape, with a length of 4000 inches, width of 2500 inches and height of 6000 inches respectively. It has a pyramid shape like temples found in Southern India. It also boasts of a special altar known as vimana which stands as a symbol of hope to aboriginal American - Indians. Flowers were used to decorate it beautifully. Some of the flowers were planted in pots and grew naturally on their own with water being used to wet them every day to avoid withering. It also contained different types of images representing different types of Hindu gods. Each god has the roles it plays in the worshipper's life according to the folks’ belief system. Special oils, perfumes or incense were positioned at their sides for the performance of rituals based on the challenge facing a seeker of help from the gods. While some may go there to ask for remedies to their lack of work, spouse or children, many went to demand for powers to become rich or famous.
The charmer went on to invoke different types of gods to come with mystical presence to change Cleopatra's lack of true affection from any respectable man. As he was chanting, she felt that she could see his face transforming to different types of animals that she had never seen before. ls he actually changing or it is my eyes that are playing tricks on me, or l am just imagining things? She thought within herself whilst the invocation lasted. She had heard through gossip among her former high school mates during her late teenage years that some charmers usually turn to wolves and any other animals when invoking powers from traditional deities. Could that be the memory that was playing out in her mind when Sir Amitab was chanting? She had wondered too.
When he finished chanting the gods’ names, he plucked two leaves each from different flowers surrounding each of the seven images of the gods placed at the altar. He gave them to her to take home and squeeze them to shreds into a bucket filled with water to bathe. It was the first step of the seven rituals she was expected to undertake to get a suitor. The charmer also instructed her to pray for her desired class of man after taking her bath with the squeezed leaves solution.
"Take this for your effort." She said, stretching a hundred dollar bill towards him, as she was about to depart from his presence that first day she went to visit him.
"Hey! What do you think you are doing? I don't take money from ladies looking for spouses. It is against the gods' rules. You better keep your dough for other uses," he had replied.
