Chapter Seven

Hunter
I could still taste her on my lips and feel her in my arms.
She was more beautiful, fiery, and passionate than I ever imagined her to be. I couldn't help but smile about that part.
I knew finally touching her would be amazing, but I swear sparks flew.
My inner wolf growled in satisfaction at how she had responded to me. I could tell she was battling with her senses, but she had lost and would lose again. Her scent clung to me now. The silly girl thought she could hide from me with that necklace.
She needs to learn who she's dealing with clearly.
Running my hand through my hair; it was beyond saving after Serina. Anyway, I turned to Luke.
"Good job distracting the friend Luke."
The jab was still on him, correcting his tux and attempting to look more polished again. His green eyes searched the clearing, almost like he was looking for someone or waiting.
"She's a hell-cat Hunter, I tried my best. Scared the crap out of me; take someone else next time."
Something was off with him. Luke loved a challenge and never turned one down. We were similar in those respects. Cassy must have ruffled him; his whole manner matched mine, and he was almost demented. Not wanting to probe into that, I gestured back to the party. We could both use a drink.
The party was still as whole as ever, more couples dancing and pack alphas mingling, ordering Luke and myself a whisky. We watched the couples and people come and go. The other reason we are here is different than Serina.
The packs have been restless, borders breached, and rogues rising. The crown decided to let each pack alpha rule how they see fit, but we've lately noticed a pattern of many wolves disappearing between borders; something was going on behind the scenes. Our spies in the packs could tell us that much. Alpha Marcus Redmoon and Alpha Emmott of Moon pack were our biggest concerns. We had been ordered to come, and I couldn't get my mind off my hunt for his beautiful daughter. Even thinking of her brought back memories, the feel of her in my arms, her moans, the way she kissed me in that garden.
Shit, Im losing it.
Downing the last of my whiskey and feeling the burn sliding down my throat was a distraction, but it wasn't good enough. I could see Luke watching me from the corner of my eye. Unlike him, to keep so quiet.
"Can you find nothing to your usual taste then, Luke? Not like you to be here with me and not tangled up in a she wolf's skirt".
He physically flinched
What the hell had Cassy done to him?...
"This whole party bores me. Could you not just grab your girl, and we can leave already? Tell me you told her?"
Now, it was my turn to finch.
"We didn't get a chance to talk. My welcome was exactly what I expected; she still hated me. Besides, you know we have other reasons besides hers; we must keep an eye on Marcus. Eric Moon was all over Serina tonight; something else is happening here."
He scoffed
"Hate you? Didn't it look like that when I walked into that garden… Are you sure you're not just jealous? A bit of rivalry."
I set my glass back on the bar, my knuckles straining and my anger spiking at anyone touching her ever again, and turned to face my brother fully.
"I don't see anyone standing in my way for Serina, and I'll kill anyone that tries.
Serina
"What the hell happened?"
Cassy was madder than I had seen her in a long time. We had managed to slip out of the ballroom and return up the stairs to my room. However, I noticed Eric's eyes on me the entire way.
"I could ask you that too!"
That shut her up, but that was even more unusual for Cassy. She loved attention, and for someone like Luke Crescent to make moves on her was expected, and I would never hear the end of it. But she was silent, almost going into a world of her own.
"Nothing; he bought me a drink, and by the time I could see straight, that asshole had whisked you away."
She wasn't telling me the whole truth but hiding something. Her whole manner was different and wild. She looked different, too, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
"But don't you dare change the subject, Ser? I will leave you for one minute, and you will fall into a prince. Hunter bloody Crescent of all people!"
She actually facepalmed herself. She was sitting on my bed, rubbing her temples like I was an errant child being scolded.
"It was an accident."
She had none of it, and I couldn't blame her. She knows what Hunter used to be like to me, tormenting me endlessly.
"Oh, so you just accidentally fell onto his lips then?"
I must have been as scarlet as her dress. I raised my fingers to them, still swollen from his rough treatment.
What had come over me? Hunter was trouble; our years of being forced together as children proved that. I still bear some of the scars.
I joined Cas on the bed, and we lay together. For a few moments, everything was peaceful.
Of course, this was Cassy, so she sat up and looked me dead in the eyes.
"Tell me everything."
And I did, right down to the fever that seemed to consume me every time we touched him, being so vague about wanting me. "Hunter s*x on a stick Crescent Prince of the Alpha packs and our future king… damn. I would need a bucket of ice thrown at me if he even gave me that smile of his."
I couldn't help but giggle. She was so easy to talk to.
"But what is with this new attitude towards me? Do we hate each other, or are we used to?"
She rolled her eyes at me. Standing and undoing her hair in the vanity mirror.
"Ser, that was years ago. People change, and he certainly has; I mean, yum… I can't blame him, Ser; you're hot. And on the market, Kind of. I don't know any man that wouldn't want a bite."
I wanted nothing from Hunter.
Other than him, he disappeared back to the royal lands.
"You're forgetting the fact that I have an arranged marriage, aren't you"
We had tried not to talk about that fact, but it was constantly in my mind.
My future husband… My father had said to stay away from Hunter and his brother? So, it can't be either of them.
"Your father cannot hide this secret forever, Serina, but whatever happens, I'm right here."
Sunrise came too soon.
It had been a sleepless night. Every time I closed my eyes, he was there.
Hunter.
Stalking me in that garden, his dark eyes sucking me in, stealing my breath. This time, we were not interrupted. This time, he had not stopped kissing me. Pulling me to the grassy floor, exploring my body with his lips, hands, and teeth. I had woken up with a covering of sweat down my body. The sun is warming the world outside, and the birds are calling from the surrounding forest.
My wolf wanted a run. I could feel her stirring within me, but not with so many packs around. It would just be asking for trouble, and my father had forbidden it
. For now, a warm shower will have to do. Feeling the warm water hitting my tired muscles was nothing short of heavenly. The steam filled the room, and a sigh left me. Washing my body was different; it was as if it had been woken. My skin was so sensitive; everywhere I went, goosebumps followed, the scent of my arousal now filling the room, mixing with the steam.
What is wrong with me?
I have needs, sure, every woman does, and being forbidden to touch anyone, I soon learned to take care of them myself, but this was different. This was that same burning lust from last night. This was him. Hunter.
A banging from my room broke me from the spell. I could hear someone in my room shuffling about.
"Who's here? I'm showering. Come back later!"
I swear I had locked that door.
Shutting off the water and wrapping myself in a rather flimsy towel, Cassy must have used all the large ones in her bath last night. I unlocked the bathroom door and stepped back into my bedroom. Nothing seemed to change; my bed was ruffled the way I left it, and my dress was dumped on the floor the same. It couldn't have been the maids; a breeze blowing in the window made me shiver.
The window… that was closed when I woke up.
Turning around, I quickly felt the presence standing behind me by the door, I could feel him wearing the stupid smirk I had grown to hate.
Hunter Crescent was no less than eating me up with his eyes.
