"Victoria." His voice was a low growl that vibrated with raw power. "Go wait in the car."
"Damian, I was just—"
"In the car."
He didn't raise his voice, but he didn't need to. The Alpha command rippled through the air like a physical shockwave, vibrating violently against my ribs and making my sealed inner wolf whimper in forced submission.
Victoria’s jaw clenched so tight I thought her teeth might c***k. She glared at me with pure, unadulterated hatred for two long seconds before spinning on her heel. Her stilettos clicked furiously against the pavement as she stalked back to the armored SUV, yanking the door open and slamming it shut behind her.
It was just the four of us left.
Three little boys. One furious Alpha King.
Before I could even think of an escape plan, Luca bolted out of the classroom doors, holding a crumpled drawing in his hand. When he saw Damian standing there, his face broke into a massive, delighted grin.
"Mister! You came back!"
Damian’s hard expression softened just a fraction. He crouched down until he was eye-level with my youngest son, his massive frame resting easily on his heels. "You bit someone yesterday, kid."
"She pulled my tail first!" Luca blurted out defensively.
The air was instantly sucked clean out of the space.
Luca slapped both hands over his mouth, his eyes going wide with terror as he realized his fatal slip-up. He looked at me, utterly heartbroken. I broke the rule, Mommy.
Damian slowly looked up at me.
Something was violently fracturing in those ice-blue irises, peeling back layer by layer to reveal the primal beast underneath.
Tail. Luca had a bad habit of half-shifting his lower spine during recess when he got too excited or angry. It was something I had to actively discipline him for every single day to keep our secret safe.
And now, it was out.
A sudden, sharp gust of autumn wind swept past us from the side, blowing the dry ginkgo leaves into a whirlwind.
And in that breeze, the final, fragile chemical barrier of my black-market scent suppressants completely shattered.
Damian’s nostrils flared aggressively.
The ice-blue of his eyes was instantly swallowed by a ring of liquid, burning gold. His wolf pupils dilated until they almost consumed his entire irises.
He stood up. One step. Two steps.
He closed the distance between us before I could even blink, his hand shooting out to seize my wrist.
His grip was scorching hot. It felt like grabbing a live wire.
It was exactly the same heat, the same touch, as that dark basement hallway five years ago.
He didn't hesitate. He dragged my wrist right up beneath his nose, burying his face against my pulse point, inhaling deeply and desperately.
Every single one of my carefully constructed defenses crumbled to dust in that split second.
"This scent..." he groaned, the sound tearing from the deepest part of his chest.
