Chapter 19
TYRANT - a cruel and oppressive person (most referred to a leaderuler).
Melissa
"Oh really? You will be begging, I quite like the sound of that." He stated wickedly, fixing his cold stares on me.
"Yes, I will, but please stop this. Aunt Andrea has nothing to do with you. Please! She is an innocent person..." I said in a small voice, my throat becoming tight. I tried to keep my tears at bay and swallowed the lump forming in my throat.
He raised one eyebrow before asking, "Why should I do that?" The question caught me off guard. What does that mean? Does he expect something from me in return? Taking in my silence as a vulnerability, he continued sharply, "After all, you are a Fernando. The dirty tainted blood of Rosemary Fernando runs inside you. So why should I listen to you?"
Reality hit me harshly on the surface, tainted blood! How can I forget about that, I will always be punished for my mother's actions. And he doesn't miss a single chance to remind me of that.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you torturing me for my mother's mistakes?" I yelled at him broken-hearted. I refused to look away even as my lips trembled, unwilling to back down. After a long, painful silence, he replied calmly, "Why shouldn't I? After all, a child gains from the parent's earnings, hard work thus he/she must pay for the mistakes as well."
"No, that is not right. The way you think is wrong. Fine, I may be the daughter of Rosemary Fernando, but what about Aunty? She has got nothing to do with you." I told him, still holding his gaze, something flickered in his eyes, and just like that, I knew he lost it.
"Wrong? You want to know what is wrong. What happened to my mother is WRONG. The way she suffered is WRONG. The way your mother snatched away her happiness cruelly is WRONG. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" He snarled at me. Standing on his feet, he kicked the chair in front of him with force. The chair crashed next to the wall, and I jumped it fright.
He strides towards me, looking like a furious lion ready to snap my neck. I stepped backwards quickly in defence. He gripped my elbow, pushed me backwards, and I fell down. I scrambled away and gulped in fear. The vein in his neck popped out, his jaw clenched, and he tightened his fists. He was shaking badly. His breathing was harsh like he was struggling-struggling not to harm me.
The sight of him brought immense fear in my body. I have never seen him like this, not this side. He lost control completely. He looked like someone possessed by the devil. His eyes were red, and so were his cheeks. He was indeed enraged. He bent down to my eyes' level and gripped my chin in a painful hold, forcing me to look into his eyes.
"You weren't there to witness her pain, I was. She suffered because of your mother and now you will pay because Rosemary is your mother."
I felt the muscles in my chin tremble. I knew in no time, droplets of water would escape my eyes like a waterfall, but I didn't back down. Retreating my face from his hold, I snapped at him. "Then you should be your damn father, and he was also the cause of Penelope’s suffering. "I told him to pay too because Johnathan is in the same tone.
His lips fell apart, his eyebrows furrowed, and confusion became evident on his face. For a moment, he was lost, I knew it because of the way he looked at me. His eyes held nothingness. Right now, he looked like someone who was hopelessly looking for water in the Sahara desert. It pained me to see him like this. He was just another broken soul. Right now, he wasn't the great Aries Alexopoulos, the powerful CEO of Alexopoulos International Holdings Corporation, but he was simply the lost Aries We both sat there, just staring into each other's eyes, not in a typical Hollywood romantic way, it was rather far from that.
I wonder what he was thinking at the moment. Be it as it may, it was obvious, and doubts were enveloping his mind.
"Shut up, you are manipulating me. You are messing with my head."
"I am not. You just don't want to accept the fact. You are punishing me for my mother’s sins, right? Johnathan is your father, and he committed mistakes as well, so you should be punished too. Why only me?" I yelled at him angrily, finally losing my patience.
"Not another word. You don't get to put a finger on my decisions. You are the one who is helpless here, not me." He stood, gone was the calmness from his eyes, and it was replaced by the usual cold emotion. I was still on the floor, his posture towering over me.
“This is where Fernando belongs, at my feet." Anger bubbled inside me, hearing his statement. How dare he? No one has ever treated me this way. But he is right, I am not the one with power here, and I can't win against him.
Right now, my only aim is to get Aunt Andrea out of this mess. I decided to switch to another line. Talking about my mother and his father right now would only engrave the situation, I needed to act maturely.
"Andrea aunty is still innocent after everything, sh..- "
"A fair amount of money has been deposited in her bank account. I believe she will do quite fine for the rest of her life with that sum, and her husband's income is average. They won't face that much of an inconvenience."
"Why don't you get it! It is not about money. The boutique was her dream. She wanted something she could call her own, yo- "I care not about such matters. Are you done now?" He asked harshly.
I can't believe it. This only means he won't take back his words. All those hard work and bad times went into the dustbin. I have witnessed the way my aunt has struggled to get her boutique in this position. And now, when it has just started to flourish, everything came crumbling down.
My lashes brimmed heavy with tears just as my eyes dripped with tears, and I gave in. I couldn't hold it anymore. Second by second, the beads of water started to come out of the shell of my eyes.
The walls that were holding me protectively came tumbling, my shoulders bent down in defeat. I uttered in a tight voice, followed by sobs.
"Please-I beg y-you.... please Aries-- have I w-will do mercy. an-anything. Just give her back t-the.. bout-tique-p-please.. iy- It means a lot to her," Droplets of salty water dripped on my chin one after another. I clutched his suit, pleading him while crying my heart out.
"Stop." One word, only one word, and I knew the countless pleads won't change anything. He will never help, ever. Shame engulfed me as I thought about my position. Why did I bother to ask someone like him? He is a cold-hearted bastard who could never understand the pain of others. I just stood in front of him motionless. He removed my hands from him. It was just too much for me.
"You bloody tyrant! You are a number one asshole. Do you hear me? You will pay for this one day. You took advantage of my helplessness. What kind of a man are you? You are a bastard, got that through your thick skull?" I snarled at him, shoving him back. He stumbled on his steps but steadied himself slightly.
He looked at me, and I could tell. He was shocked.
I didn't get time to comprehend. One moment, he was staring at me with a shocked expression, and the very next moment, I was being dragged by him. It all escalated within seconds. He opened the glass door that led to the balcony and gave me a rough push. I fell flat on the cold floor, he brought a pillow and shoved it on my face.
"This is where you will sleep from now on. I showed you kindness by leaving you with a comfortable bed and other materials, but you had to get your sharp tongue on the way. Now bear with the outcome." With that being said, he closed the door, locked them, and went inside to sleep.
I stared into the blank space dumbfounded. Minutes passed, and soon I recovered from the shock. I quietly placed the pillow on the floor, laid my body down, and placed my head on it.
What was left to say?
Nothing. My lips trembled as the tears burst forth like water coming from the stream. I pressed one palm on my eyes and one on my mouth to stop the sound of cries from coming out.
I wanted to scream, but could I really?
No, I was helpless. The tears traced down my cheeks without any sign of stopping. The floor was cold and hard, nothing like the warm, soft, and cosy bed that I slept on yesterday. The wind blew stronger this time, and I shivered from the cold surface. I curled into a fetal position, trying to warm myself.
The muffled sobs brought a shattering pain against my throat. I couldn't hold back. It took everything in me not to let out a roar of cry. I continued sobbing, and as I heard my own sounds, I realized that I sounded like a distressed small child. And that was truly who I was right now.
The last string of painful emotions broke through, and then I knew I was like a dead leaf.
I lay lifeless on the cold ground before everything darkened just like my life did, and consciousness was taken away from me.
I fell into oblivion!
