Chloe's POV
I popped a piece of candy into my mouth. Before the sweetness could even hit my tongue, Danny's reaction next to me nearly made me choke from laughing.
The guy actually stumbled. He looked like he was about to drop to his knees right there on the sidewalk.
Seriously?
"I—I mean..." Danny was panicking, his voice trembling. "Doctor, how did you know? I didn't say a single word."
I pulled another candy from my pocket, propped my chin on my hand, and gave him a lopsided grin.
"Relax, Danny. Lucky guess. I just thought 'Middleton' sounded like a powerful name."
"A—a guess. Right." Danny let out a massive sigh of relief, forcing a shaky laugh. "Yeah, it's got a ring to it. Definitely."
I kept the candy in my cheek and stayed quiet.
