Chapter 21
Caleb took a drink out of the goblet Rose had just filled and shook his head, hoping no one at the table noticed. The moment Rose entered the dining room, he knew that Caroline had purposely sent the girl here. Caroline had stopped by to talk to him after the inquisition, scolding him for losing his temper and reminding him that Rose was just a frightened little girl. While he didn’t recall exactly what he’d shouted back at her, he did know his ugly reply had included the phrase, “w***e of an incompetent king” which had lit a fire under the stout woman. She had accused him of listening to rumors and not gaining the full story.
