When she was sure Josh had fallen asleep, Sara slipped out from beneath his arm and got out of bed. Her brain wouldn’t stop working, and with a meal larger than she’d had in months sitting heavy in her stomach, her body wasn’t faring too well, either. It was just as well. After so many nights of being drugged into unconsciousness, it was a good feeling to know she could stay awake if she wanted to. Unwilling to wake Josh, she curled up cross-legged at the foot of the bed and turned on the television.
