As she walked up the stairs she looked down at him as Sophia held his hand smiling at her while she went up to get her things. She packed a small bag, the final remnants of her life here. She forced a smile, her heart breaking with every step as she walked down the stairs in silence.
When she got to the living room, Ryder looked up, his eyes filled with something like regret; somehow she had a little ray of hope, wishing he would stop her, but he looked away. Then his mother gave her the divorce papers which she signed as tears rolled down on her signature. Without a second thought, she turned away leaving Ryder and his family behind.
Walking down the street so late at night, she wondered how time flew by and suddenly she heard the sound of thunder as the rain poured down heavily on her. She raised her head up looking into the sky and then she fell to her knees crying her heart out while the rain poured heavily on her.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a sleek black car pulled up in front of her and a young man came out of the car and covered her with an umbrella, she didn’t look up until the driver called her name. “Miss Lexi?” it was a familiar face from a life she had left behind, she was shocked to see that person but at that moment, she knew she needed saving.
Without a word, she let him guide her into car, she sank into the leather seat, her eyes glazed with tears as the car sped down the road. After a quiet drive, the car pulled up towards a grand estate, towering iron gates opened up, revealing wide, carefully trimmed gardens and a huge mansion that looked like something out of a dream. This wasn’t just any house, it was her family’s estate, a place she hadn’t seen in years.
The driver opened the door, and as Lexi stepped out, she took in the scene, Beautiful gardens glowed under the evening lights, fountain sparkled, and everything looked so perfect. She had almost forgotten what it was like to be home. She was led inside as she was taken aback by the bright chandeliers sparkled above lighting every part of the room. The silk drapes, the antique furniture’s and wall lined with art, it was all so elegant, so familiar, yet it felt so strange after all these years.
Then the icing on the cake, the family portrait with her and her parents, just there, on the photo wall as she felt so emotional seeing it. She was guided upstairs to her room as the maids helped her out of her clothes drawing her warm bath with scented lavender and rose. As she sank into the water, Lexi at ease for a moment, she let herself relax and be taken care of. For three years she served and looked after other people but now, it was her turn to be pampered. Here she wasn’t Ryder’s forgotten wife; She was Alexandra Hart, the daughter of one of the wealthiest family in the city.
Once she was dressed in a soft, elegant gown, her hair brushed and styled, she descended the grand staircase. Each step down reminded her of who she was, what she had come from. She wasn’t a broken woman anymore. She was a Hart, and for the first time, she started to feel like it.
At the bottom of the stairs, her parents waited. Her mother, elegant as always, broke into a teary smile and rushed forward, pulling her into a warm embrace.
“Oh, Lexi, my dear,” her mother whispered, holding her tight. “You’re home.”
Lexi closed her eyes, letting herself be held, feeling warmth she hadn’t felt in years. Her father stood behind her mother, his gaze stern yet filled with a softness she remembered from childhood. They had wanted her to marry for the sake of alliances, and she had fled, determined to create her own life, away from all the pressure and expectations. And yet here she was, back in their arms.
“Lexi,” her father finally spoke, his voice steady but laced with guilt. “I’m so sorry for everything. For trying to push you into a life you didn’t want, for letting you believe you couldn’t be yourself.”
Lexi looked at her father with tears in her eyes as she said to him, “I am sorry I left all those years, and then I got married and cut you both from my life. I know, I am a bad daughter and that is why I wasn't happy in the end. I gave my all to Ryder and his family and when he didn’t want me anymore, he tossed me to the curbs” she said as tears rolled down her cheeks.
Her mother held her in an embrace as she said to her “Oh! honey, you should have told us something. I know you left home all those years but we are your parents, and we would have your back and protect you no matter what”.
She nodded as she said “I was just too disappointed mom, how was I going to face you both, I mean I left home and went through all I did” her dad held her as he sat her down holding her hands as he said to her “It is okay my baby, in all I am glad all that happened did happen, I mean you wouldn’t be back home with us. I have missed you so much my bunny” they both laughed as they hugged each other as she said “Dad, I am all grown up” he cleaned her tears as he said, “No matter how grown you are, you will always be my bunny”. She smiled as she thanked her parents.
Then with a stern face her dad asked, “So what do you want me to do with that miserable man and his family, because with just a phone call, I will ensure all they have built will come crashing down over night”. Lexi shook her head, managing a faint smile. “No, Dad. I don’t want revenge. It’s over now. I just want to move forward. I want to build something for myself.”
Her father’s face softened, pride shining in his eyes. “You’ve always been strong, Lexi. Maybe stronger than we realized.”
Taking a deep breath, Lexi spoke, her voice steady. “I want to come back to Hart Jewelers, but I want to earn my way. No special treatment, no one knowing I’m your daughter.”
Her mother’s eyes widened. “But, Lexi, you’re a Hart. Everyone would expect—”
“That’s exactly why I want this,” she interrupted gently. “I want to prove myself. I need to know I earned my place. And if that means starting as a junior designer, then that’s what I’ll do.”
Her father looked at her for a long moment, then finally nodded. “If that’s what you want, then we’ll support you. But remember this—you’ve always had a place here. You’ve always been enough and you have nothing to prove to anyone, All of this belongs to you anyways so I will let you do things how you want to this time around.”
She smiled as she thanked her dad for his support, however her mom was still sad because starting as a different person would mean she has to leave this life again, and live as a regular person and not the billionaire heiress she is. Her mother took her hand, a sadness in her eyes. “Are you sure you want to leave the estate again? We just got you back.”
Lexi’s heart ached at the thought, but she nodded. “I need to do this. I’ll visit often, I promise. And when I’m ready… when I’ve proven myself, I’ll come back.”
Her parents exchanged a glance, and then both nodded, pulling her into a final embrace. Lexi closed her eyes, feeling their love surround her. She hadn’t felt this whole, this secure, in years.
This time, she wouldn’t let anyone define her future, she was taking the bulls of her life once again by its horn because she is Lexi Hart, the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn Hart and the heiress to Hart Jewelers and finally she was ready
to claim her own future.
