Can't sit here

645 Words
Daniel shut his eyes, took a deep breath, then opened them again. “I can’t sit here feeding you all day. I have other work to do. Next time, you’ll eat on your own. Got it?” Tears spilled from Rose’s eyes and rolled down her cheeks. Seeing them, Daniel clenched his fists. “You can’t blackmail me like this. Do you even know—I blackmail others. But looking at your innocence…” He stopped mid-sentence. Rose suddenly pressed herself against his chest, hugging him tightly. Daniel went silent again. Just then, a mocking voice came from the door. “Well, now I see why you brought this girl here. If she’s keeping you entertained, then I should get my share of the fun too. After all, I’m your brother. I should have rights over your things as well.” The moment Max’s voice hit the air, Daniel’s expression turned pitch-dark. Rose clung even tighter to him. Daniel spun toward Max, his voice sharp as steel. “How many times have I told you not to come near my room? Do you not understand once?” Max smirked. “Oh, come on. What did I do that’s so wrong? I just came to see why this girl is here. And seeing the way she’s glued to your chest—I get it. I know exactly why you brought her. But tell me, Daniel—if you wanted virgins, you should’ve told me. There are plenty around. You didn’t need to—” BANG! The gunshot cut him off. Max screamed, clutching his arm where the bullet had grazed him. “Ahhh! Are you insane? You’re shooting at me—for this girl?” Daniel held the gun steady, his voice cold and deadly. “Don’t you dare say another word. Especially not about her. I can tolerate a lot of things, Max. But nothing against her. Get out now—or your corpse will be lying here next.” Rose didn’t even flinch at the gunshot. She stayed nestled against Daniel’s chest, as if nothing had happened. Daniel scooped her up in his arms and walked her toward the living area. Behind him, Max clutched his bleeding hand, his face twisted with fury. “What the hell is in this girl that you’d turn against all of us for her? Daniel, you’re making a huge mistake. I won’t forgive you—and I won’t spare this girl either!” He stormed out in rage. Downstairs, Alexa was still crying. Hearing her sobs, Max snapped, “Now what are you crying for? What happened to you?” Alexa quickly showed her injured hand. “Look! That girl bit me so badly. It hurts like hell. And Daniel didn’t even look at me—not once. He didn’t even scold her.” But then she noticed the blood dripping from Max’s hand. Shocked, she exclaimed, “Max! What happened to you? Why are you bleeding?” Max gritted his teeth. “Because of that girl! She’s barely been here two hours, and already she’s had a gun fired in this house!” “What?” Alexa gasped. “He shot at you? Oh my god! You’re his brother. How could he do that to you?” Max barked back, “The same way he’s treating you!” Alexa wiped her tears and said darkly, “This girl could be dangerous for us. We need to do something about her.” Max nodded, eyes blazing. “Damn right. Because I’m not letting her stay here another second.” Meanwhile… Inside the room… Daniel was feeding Rose breakfast with his own hands. She ate slowly, while his eyes stayed locked on her. Suddenly, he asked, “Do you go to school?” At once, Rose froze mid-bite and lifted her blue eyes to meet his deep brown gaze.
