Chapter 4 – Unleashing the Hunt

NORA POV I still couldn’t believe the moonstone ring shattered like that. The pain was still crawling beneath my skin, but now it felt… purposeful. Like I’d been freed from something. A prison of my own making. I stared at the broken pieces in my palm, the shards glinting in the moonlight. This wasn’t just the end of an old bond. This was a signal. A declaration. The magic had shifted. I was no longer the woman who begged to be enough. I wasn’t the fragile mate who was rejected and thrown away. I wasn’t even the witch who once dreamed of revenge. I was something more. Something stronger. The club was buzzing with energy. Even Caden—who was still adjusting to everything—was already plotting with Reya about the next move. Zara had her own corner, sharpening her knives while talking with Mei, who had started collecting intel on the various packs that were beginning to show signs of cracks in their leadership. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that Darius was still lurking in the background. His presence had never truly left me. It was like an itch I couldn’t reach, a ghost in my bones. It was time to confront that ghost. I slipped the pieces of the moonstone into my pocket and walked toward the back door of the club, stepping into the crisp night air. I needed answers. And if Darius wasn’t going to give them to me, I’d drag them out of him. Later at Darius’ Estate Darius had thought about the scroll all day, over and over. He’d gone through every inch of his estate, hoping something would make sense, hoping his wolf would respond. Nothing. He wasn’t sure if it was the bond’s severance that had broken him, or the guilt. Either way, he was losing more than just the fight to find Nora. He was losing his control. When his Beta, Leoric, came in with reports of Nora’s movements, Darius snapped the papers in half, his fingers trembling. “Where is she now?” Darius growled. Leoric stood tall, unwavering. “She left her bookstore, went dark for a few hours, then reappeared. She’s making waves in the city, Blackthorn. People are starting to listen. People are starting to believe in this Divorce Alpha Club.” “Then it’s already too late.” Leoric shot him a sharp look. “You wanted this.” “I wanted her,” Darius said, his voice low. “But she’s not the same. She’s dangerous.” “She’s yours.” Darius glared at him. “I’ll make her see it.” Leoric shook his head. “It’s not about seeing anymore. It’s about choosing. And she’s already chosen.” “Then I’ll make her un-choose.” NORA POV The city was alive with the hum of power. Magic, wild and raw, swirled around me as I walked, the air heavy with tension. But there was something else, too. Fear. I wasn’t sure what had made me leave the comfort of the club, but something told me that I had to face Darius. If he thought I was weak, he was wrong. He didn’t get to dictate the terms of our bond anymore. And I was going to make sure he knew it. I reached the tall gates of his estate and didn’t hesitate. The guards at the front didn’t even blink before I knocked them out with a simple spell. They crumpled silently to the ground. I didn’t come here for a fight. But if Darius thought I’d back down just because of some unspoken claim between us—he was mistaken. The door to his mansion opened on its own, the hinges groaning with reluctance. A slow, deliberate walk took me inside. The grand marble floors gleamed in the soft light of chandeliers, but it all felt so empty. Empty without him. I took a deep breath. The sound of footsteps echoed from the grand hall. The air shifted. And there he stood. Darius Blackthorn. Ripped jeans. His usual dark attire. A glint of old anger in his eyes. “Nora,” he said softly, but there was a cruel undertone that made my skin crawl. “I see you’ve come to play the game again.” “I didn’t come to play,” I replied. “I came to end it.” “You think you can end us?” “I think I can end the mess you made.” DARIUS POV Nora stood before him like a force of nature. It was hard to remember the woman who once pleaded with him for understanding. Harder still to reconcile her with the woman before him now. She was glowing, the light around her almost alive. The broken moonstone ring in her hand pulsed with magic that was darker than anything he’d ever seen. “I never meant to hurt you,” he said, his voice low, almost desperate. He didn’t want to admit it, but it was true. He had never wanted to break her. To see her break. But he had. Her eyes flashed with something fierce. “Then why did you?” Darius shook his head, stepping closer. “I was trying to protect you. I never thought you could handle it. I—” “You thought I was weak,” she interrupted, her voice cold, but it carried the weight of a thousand storms. “You thought I was a burden. And now, you think you can fix this by just showing up?” “I never thought you were a burden, Nora,” he said, the words slipping from his lips like something that had been buried for too long. “But you were never just a mate. You were more. And I didn’t know how to love that.” “I’m not your apology,” Nora snapped. “I’m not a tearful redemption arc for you to fix your mistakes. I don’t need saving from you.” There was a flicker of something in his chest. Pain. Regret. Longing. “You needed saving, Nora,” Darius said, stepping forward. “You just didn’t know it.” She shook her head. “Not anymore. I’m stronger now. Stronger than you ever gave me credit for.” Darius reached out, fingers trembling as they brushed against her cheek. “Then let me make it right.” Nora’s eyes softened, but only for a split second. “I don’t need you to make it right. I need you to stay away.” ZARA POV It was getting worse. I could feel the tension in the air. It thickened. The wolves were restless. The alphas were starting to rally, and not in a way that was good for us. I was sitting in a quiet corner of the club, nursing a drink, when the door slammed open. Lyra walked in, eyes dark, jaw set. “They’re moving,” she said, her voice hard. “The alphas. They’re gathering forces. They know what we’ve started.” “And they think they can stop us?” I grinned, the bitter taste of my drink almost sweet now. “No,” Lyra said. “They think they can control us. And that’s where they’ll make their mistake.” I looked at her, eyes narrowing. “You’re sure?” “I’m sure. They’re all coming for us, Zara.” “Good,” I said, standing up. “Let them come.” Meanwhile at Darius estate , He stood, still staring after Nora as she turned to leave. He could feel the distance between them growing. But he didn’t stop her. He didn’t chase. Not yet.
