That night, Yuna and Aaron never came home. By the time the ache in my lower back finally faded, morning had already arrived. I packed my bags and took every single thing that belonged to me.
This house was the first place Aaron and I rented after we got together. We had spent ten years there. Right after graduation, Aaron had no money and could only afford a tiny attic room.
When I moved in with him, my mother couldn't bear to see us struggle. She helped us rent this larger place and covered the rent for several years. When the lease ended, she bought the house herself.
We never had to pay a cent for rent, and our days had been quiet and comfortable. After Yuna moved in, she started finding fault with Aaron and often sent me videos and sayings about unfaithful men.
At first, I didn't think much of it. Aaron also reminded me, "Don't hang out with her too much. Something's wrong with her."
Back then, the two of them acted like enemies who couldn't stand being in the same room. I didn't know when things changed, but somehow, I became the one she started testing. My phone was constantly flooded with random friend requests and annoying messages from strangers.
At first, I thought someone was messing with me, so I ignored it. Until one day, Yuna casually said, "Oh, that website needs a phone verification code when you register."
My heart dropped. That was when I realized she had been trying to test me all along. Yuna and I got into a huge argument.
She stormed out of the house, refused to answer my calls, and ignored my messages on w******p. I searched for her the entire night, sitting downstairs and reaching out to our mutual friends one by one.
The next day, Aaron returned from his business trip. He came back with Yuna, and only then did I find out that she had gone to the same place where Aaron had been staying.
The moment he walked through the door, Aaron started blaming me for forcing Yuna to leave. "She's a young woman. Where could she possibly go in the middle of the night? If I hadn't bought her a ticket and gone to get her, she could've suffered!"
I completely lost control. I put all the messages on my phone in front of him and explained everything that had happened.
After hearing the whole story, Aaron frowned. "The messages are already there. Just delete them. She just got out of a relationship and has been hurt before. It's normal for her to have trouble trusting love."
He took my phone without much thought and only glanced at the texts before saying, "Why are you making such a big deal out of this? Someone reaching out to you means people like you."
That was the first time I felt a chill in my heart. Looking back now, that was when he had already started taking Yuna's side. Because I chose to forgive him, Yuna kept pushing my boundaries again and again, until she was willing to drug me.
After I finished packing, I was about to leave when f*******: showed me a photo Yuna had posted. She was lying on a hospital bed, holding a bouquet of red roses with a sweet smile on her face, while Aaron held up his phone and bent down slightly to take a selfie with her.
Her post said, Get my Valentine's Day flowers early.
The two of them looked so loving, like a newly married couple. I silently closed the page and blocked both Yuna and Aaron.
The moment I finished, Aaron came back with Yuna leaning against him. She was holding the same bouquet I had seen in the photo on f*******:. When Aaron saw the suitcase in my hand, his brows immediately tightened.
Yuna let out a mocking laugh and raised her chin. "See? I told you. She got jealous after seeing our picture. Now she can't wait to move out and live with another man. Sarah, I never thought you could be this pathetic."
Aaron's face turned cold in an instant. He walked toward me, grabbed my wrist, and questioned me, "So Yunie was right. I really got you wrong. No wonder you came home so late last night!"
