A tall and lean man rubbed his temples as he closed his eyes, he was sitting behind his desk while another man was leaning casually at the end of a sofa. The sofa was placed against the wall so it faced the desk, so whoever visited the office could sit down in comfort and have a conversation with the man. The man behind the desk had a muscular body, not like the broad and bulky kind like many other alphas could be like. This alpha looked more toned and fit like he was an athlete, his dark hair was cut short and he was clean shaved. The man on the sofa had a similar physique, he was slightly shorter and had a tad less muscle mass than the alpha. He also had blond hair and it was longer than his alpha’s hair, it was clear from just looking at them that the alpha was the broody and serious kind, while the beta was more relaxed and had a carefree attitude.
The alpha stopped rubbing his temples and looked at his beta, “tell me again about this human they are bringing in?”
The beta looked at him with a playful expression, “the patrol members that found her mind linked me that she belongs to an east coast pack called Silver Moon. I checked, we don’t know anyone there.”
The alpha sighed and leaned back into his chair, “her name?”
The beta gave a short smile and straightened up on the sofa, “Scarlett Woodburn.”
He was being purposely short with his intel as it usually got the alpha testy, and it amused the beta when his alpha barked at other packs. He knew that the alpha’s next move would be to call the pack to confirm, and right on cue the alpha picked up his phone and called a pack he did know across the wast country. The beta could hear what the alpha at the other end was saying, not with his werewolf hearing, alpha’s tended to be loud beings.
“Hello Greyson, what can I do for you?” Alpha Greyson got a small smirk as he heard a friendly voice he hadn’t heard in a while.
“Odin! It’s been too long! How is the luna?”
The other alpha chuckled in the other end, “pregnant again, she can’t get enough of them.”
Alpha Greyson grinned as he envisioned his friend happy with his luna and many pups running around, “good for you Odin! Tell your luna that I said hi.”
Alpha Odin chuckled back, “and she probably will tell you to find your luna, or else she will set you up with one of her friends.”
Alpha Greyson laughed out loud, many luna’s had tried to set him up as he had been looking for years with no success. An alpha would turn sullen and lonely without his mate, so many were on his case to settle down already.
“Odin! Do you know of a pack on your coast called ‘Silver Moon’?”
Alpha Odin took a deep breath, “oh yeah, I do, I got the alpha’s number, give me a second.”
Then he rustled through some things before he found it, he gave it to alpha Greyson so he could write it down, “thank you, Odin! I need to call about a human.”
His voice seemed less enthusiastic as he said the word human.
“Careful now Grey, hide your contempt for the human when you call the alpha, he cares for his members very ardently.”
Greyson sighed back, “I don’t have anything against humans, my contempt is for people wandering over my borders.”
Odin made an aaah sound before he rounded up the call, “oh well, I’m sure it’s all harmless. Good luck Grey, stay safe!”
Greyson cheerfully said his goodbyes, “you too Odin, stay safe!”
Right after he hung up he dialed the other number, his beta was looking bored sitting on the sofa. He was hoping for more eventful phone calls, but it seemed like this was just another day of friendly exchanges.
The other end picked up and a gruff voice boomed out, “alpha Black! What can I do for you?”
Greyson was not intimidated by the curt greeting, he was an alpha as well and could easily sound terrifying, “alpha Greyson Blaine from Fiery Falls, I’m calling to confirm the identity of a Scarlett Woodburn.”
The other end roared with laughter, it took a while for it to die down. Alpha Greyson had to remove the phone from his ear to not lose his hearing, the laughter was booming. The beta sitting on the sofa was now interested and straightened his back and leaned forward. He got a small smirk on his face, he had a hunch he would like this.
When the other alpha finally stopped laughing he boomed out questions for Greyson, “what did she do this time? Is she there? She’s ok right?”
Greyson made a face to his beta, this would indeed be interesting, “yes alpha Black, she s fine. My patrol found her wandering over my borders, they are taking her into the packhouse now.”
Alpha Black chuckled, “good good good good, that’s good news. My beta would not be happy if she was injured, he dotes on that girl.”
Both alpha Greyson and his beta shot each other a look, “so she’s related to your beta?”
Alpha Greyson was now intrigued.
Alpha Black made a mmm sound to confirm, “yes she is, she is his stepdaughter. He found his mate a bit late, she is human. The woman divorced her man and brought her kid to our pack, they both are very much loved by our members. But Scarlett can be a bit…. Eeehh… well. She’s Scarlett.”
His drawn-out explanation did not provide any answers for Greyson, so he tried to clarify, “so she is ok then, I can just let her go?”
The other alpha chuckled again, “yes, she is harmless. She probably didn’t notice the borderlines, unless it’s through a camera she probably won’t notice. She’s on a year’s hiatus hiking and taking pictures, she’s a photographer.”
Alpha Greyson was nodding as he listened in, he seemed much happier now that this human posed no threat, “thank you alpha Black, that is good news for me.”
Alpha Black boomed back, “no problem alpha Blaine, it was a pleasure talking to you.”
Then they both hung up the call.
