CHAPTER 39

— Anika —

All my life I never needed someone to help me grow, I learned independently. I never needed anyone or anything from other people. I get things on my own, and learn from it on my own. Growing up, I stood for my own, fight for my will, I distance myself to others and built walls. I never let my guards down, not until I met Isaac. Who makes everything go round, who color my devoured life. The only person who shows me genuine love and affection, cares and protects me passionately, who is willing to die just to make me safe. He practically did everything for me the day I moved into his house but when he needed me the most, I just stood there and watch him took a bath in his own blood, I just watch him fight for his life.

I was known to be a great doctor but all of that vanished in just a moment. I fight for everyone's life but when Isaac was the one lying on the hospital bed I let my fear ate me. How can I let myself become useless at situations when he needed me the most? Where did the great Anika go when he was battling for his life fighting for my safety. I always look for someone who will be by my side no matter what cost but I, myself never did the same. 

I will never forgive myself if the operation did not go well. Good thing, it was Stephen and Mr. Tan who removed the bullet in his chest. I owe them one, I said to myself.

I went to the washroom first to compose myself before going to Isaac’s room.

“Stop blaming yourself, none of these is you fault.” Blake said as I open the washroom door. He maybe heard me sob inside. 

“Don’t mind me, I’m okay, our priority is Isaac's recovery" I said while we walk going to Isaac's room.

Stephen texted me the VIP room where they transferred Isaac, and he was also on his way there. 

As soon as we reached the room, Jake rushed to me looking so worried. 

"Where have you been? I'm so worried about you, good thing Blake never leaves your butt. I can't afford if something bad happened to you also." Jake said sincerely, he looks like a strict brother. I was about to respond to him when I heard a loud voice banging all over the floor. 

"This is all your fault, non of these would have happened if you are not with us. Since you came, no good things happened to this men, you're just a pain in the ass brat" I couldn't decipher her words towards me, I lose control and slap her face hard that makes a good sound all over the place. 

"Anika" Jake said but I don't care, I knew I have warned him of this. 

Blake abruptly grabs me at his back, trying to block Jenny if ever she makes a move. The others walk into my side trying to protect me also. 

"Who the hell do you think you are to talk to me that way, you are just a b***h running after the man who can never loved you, he didn't loved you even before I was out of the picture how much more that I am here now, so if you ever have decency in your body, leave right now before I call the guards to take you forcedly out of this building. You are not needed here and will never be needed here." Once and for all she should have known her place. 

"Who needs to be taken out of the building" Stephen suddenly butt in which makes the tension ease. 

"Let's go inside Stephen, I have more important things to do then brutally grab a b***h going outside this hospital." Stephen and I walked inside the room. 

I inhale once the door closed, I need to focus to Isaac first before minding nonsense things. 

"Are you okay?" Stephen asked which I just responded with a nod. 

"Here is his the patient's data." Stephen hand me over Isaac's file. 

"The bullet was successfully removed and the lost blood was already replaced. He just needs to take some rest and sooner then we thought the patient will recover." He explained professionally. 

"I will discharged the patient and he will recover at home." I said that makes him raised a brow. 

"That will be a burden, the patient needs to be monitored from time to time and it will be hard--" 

"I will personally check up on him, I will also be on indefinite leave" I said cutting of his sentence. 

"Don't make it to hard on yourself Anika, I know --"

"I will be fine, besides I'm a better doctor than you after all" I said that makes him chuckle, kidding aside I know he will not allow it but I've decided already. 

“He just needs to take some rest and sooner he will wake up. After all, that man is a bad ass” Stephen said that makes me glare at him. He immediately raised his hands to surrender.

“Don’t worry, I will make sure he will recover fast.” I said holding hands, knowing Stephen, he was not easy to convince.

He just sigh and shook his head.

“I will ask the nurse to process his papers.” He smiled forcefully.

“Thank you! I owe you a lot.” I said then he immediately leaves the room.

As soon as Stephen step out of the room, Jake and the other guys come in. Knowing them, I’m sure they sneak to what we are saying. 

“Are you sure? We will take boss home?” Jake said as he enter the room.

“Yes! I will be his personal doctor.” I fold my arms under my chest looking at the eyes of everyone.

“Don’t get us wrong, we believed and trust you, you know that, but it will be a big burden on your side. I don’t want to admit this, but I think Stephen was right, boss should stay here.” Jake said, he was now holding my hands showing sincerity.

“I have decided already, I can’t wait another attack from his enemies, his not safe here. Isaac is strong enough to recover from this but his not safe enough to stay in this hospital. Even if you guys are here, we can’t put the lives of other patients here.” This time my tone was a bit louder

“Besides, the mansion was well guarded enough and no one dares to go beyond its wall. Isaac is not well and as his soon to be wife, I’m in charge.” I said confidently.

“Now if you don’t have other concerns, you may now go and get everything ready because we will transfer Isaac today.” I added. 

I saw passion and respect to each and everyone of them. I know they have trust in me, they can see Isaac in me. I may not know how well Isaac rule this family but I will do it in my own will.

But honestly speaking, it felt like inside of me has woken up, it feels like someone deep inside me was finally alive. It felt strange, but this feeling in me seems burning, and I like it. I feel so me.
