PROLOGUE

A month had passed since I had fought the black dragon. My father informed me that Ezekiel had become even more evil and full of hatred thanks to the injury I caused him, which created more work for my father, Alarick and their, well, our people. More and more people needed our help and a place to hide. It had already forced them to rebuild and open a new dome. I couldn’t say I regretted what I had done, and given the situation, I would probably do the same thing again. Now that we were in this situation and I heard about what Ezekiel had done in the last month, I felt really sorry for the people affected by his mood swings.  For me and Alarick, the last month was also not so good. We were searching for the Oracle, for Artemia, but with no luck. I was starting to think that she was only a myth. But then again, Ezekiel had found and spoken to her, and thanks to what she had told him, he had changed drastically. He could even kill his own mate. Many things were hidden from us, or made little sense, and we couldn’t determine whether they were true or false.  The other problem was finding the group of half bloods like me, those who brought Alarick to dragon king. I knew based on Alarick’s age they would probably be dead by now, but from what Neena had said, although only one woman had visited and spoken to Ezekiel, they were a group or more like a community of half bloods, so they might have descendants. They might not be able to tell us what drove them to create Alarick with Ailana’s blood, his biological mother, but they might join our fight against Ezekiel. Anyone willing to help would be welcome among us.  At least one thing was going according to what we needed and wanted. Thanks to Ezekiel's injury, he mostly stayed in his mountain fortress and let his generals do the dirty work for him. He had even avoided us until now. Maybe the lesson I taught him a month ago scared him enough to leave us alone, at least for now. My father explained that his dragons were useless in the mountains. To melt the mountain above our heads, they would have to fly closer to the surface, and there they would risk being hurt by the spikes growing from the rocks all over the mountains. It was one of the reasons, why my father had chosen this place, Blackthorn Mountains, as their hideout and base for their operations. This place became our home a month ago, and I was slowly getting used to it.  Since we rescued Alarick and my mom from Ezekiel, my relationship with Alarick had improved drastically. We became mates, as we should have been from the moment we met, but sadly for him, he kept this information from me for over six months. I only found out after he was captured and Rowan, one of his friends, gave me his diary to r******w that I thought about it, it was actually clear from the beginning. From the first time we met he had this strange loving look in his eyes, but because I was used to being ignored in the eyes of the one I thought I loved, I didn’t recognize it when someone looked at me with love. I knew now. Now I finally knew what it meant to be loved by the person who was meant to be only yours. To be with the second half of your soul. To have your soulmate.
