Chapter 7Val, who had initially agreed to stay at my place for a week during her initial recovery, had ended up not leaving. That suited me just fine. I enjoyed her company, on a number of levels. On Saturday nights, we assembled, by mutual agreement, on the couch to watch our favorite hockey team, the Leafs, doing battle with their opponent of the week. But on one particular night, I found my thoughts straying to our broomball endeavours. With three weeks to go in the season, it was clear that we’d have a shot at first place, which meant a favorable draw for the league playoffs. I still pinned my hopes on ending on a high note.
