“I’m going to die”.
I said the words in disbelief. My heart sank.
I wasn't even guilty of the crime I was being accused of, yet I was going to be put to death for it.
My mind couldn't fathom it but I knew that I needed to act fast. I needed to do something about the situation.
If I were going to die, the least I could do was to put up a fight first.
My eyes suddenly glanced at the open window that led to the backyard. And before my brain could rationalize what was going on, my feet took me to the window.
The woods that led outside the territory were not too far from the backyard. If I go north, I’ll be out of the territory before dawn.
I have never had to climb down a window before but I had no other choice. It was either this or get caught trying to escape through the front door.
I raised myself up to the window and summoned my wolf once again. I asked her for my claws. This was the most I’ve ever used my wolf.
My wolf did as she was told and in no time, I was clawing down the old house of the lycan king with my pup kicking against the walls of my womb painfully.
As soon as my feet hit the ground, I transformed fully to my omega wolf and began speeding into the woods until I got to a little stream of water that separated our territory from that of the Bloodstone pack.
I looked into the water and staring back at me was my wolf. I was meeting her for the first time. Her fur was white and her eyes were deep blue like the ocean. She was beautiful.
“Hello, wolf”, I said to her.
She let out a weak howl in reply and I smiled inwardly. My desperation to stay alive brought me the good luck of finally transforming into a full wolf.
Suddenly, the situation I was in wasn't looking all bad. I quickly refocused my attention back to my escape mission.
I planned to go through Bloodstone Pack’s territory as quickly as possible until I got into another territory. They were not exactly a friendly pack and they had a long-standing rivalry with the pack of the Red Moon Valley.
I counted it a plus that it was almost midnight so I wasn't expecting to bump into any wolves in the woods. Hopefully.
I continued on my journey, wondering if my absence had already been noticed in the palace. I hoped not.
After a while of walking, I came to a stop in a cleared path to catch my breath. It wasn't easy walking all these miles with a fully formed pup in my belly.
The moment I slowed down, I felt an eerie presence around me. My wolf sniffed the air.
There was another wolf around. He was watching me.
I howled weakly, hoping to signal that I meant no harm to whomever was watching me.
I began to hear the paws of a large wolf hit the ground but I saw no one. He was probably in the woods.
I looked around me, turning a three-sixty degree to find the wolf. He seemed to be circling in on me but he was just too fast, so I couldn't see him.
Suddenly, I saw him coming from straight ahead with a speed that would run me over if I stayed in his lane. He was launching at me aggressively.
Before I could move, I saw him pounce to grab me but all of a sudden another large brown wolf appeared from nowhere. He jumped over me from behind, meeting my attacker mid-air before pinning him down under his huge paws.
He saved me.
I saw the rescuing wolf's claw at the attacker and he growled in pain before pushing the rescuing wolf off of him and running away into the woods.
It was only when the rescuing wolf turned around to look at me with its red eyes that my wolf recognized him.
It was Alpha Thane.
XXX
Thane’s POV
Tracking her was very easy. I had memorized her scent after a year of waking up beside her every day.
Our mate bond also made it easier to find her. I could easily find her in a room full of thousands of wolves.
I had never met her wolf before, though. I didn't even know that she had one. Maybe because I never paid enough attention to her.
I found it poetic that the moon goddess had blessed her with a white wolf, one that signified how pure her heart was. Or so I thought, until she pulled this crazy stunt on me.
I walked towards her, my eyes narrowing in on her. I saw her wolf squirm under my wolf’s intense gaze. She had always had esteem issues so I wasn't surprised by her reaction.
When I got close to her, I did a three-sixty around her, ensuring that she wasn't hurt. When I saw no scratch on her, I stood in front of her wolf, eyeball to eyeball.
I transformed into my human form in front of her and ordered her to do the same through our mate bond.
She instantly obeyed.
“What the hell are you doing on the enemy’s territory?” I yelled.
I watched her bow her head in shame. I stepped closer to her and placed two fingers under her chin before raising her face to look me in the eyes.
The moment her eyes met mine, I felt our mate bond kick in. And I knew she felt it too.
We were both standing stark naked in the middle of the woods with the moon as our only source of light, staring each other straight in the eyes after just transforming from our wolf forms.
The energy between us was magnetic. I wanted to lay her on the cleared patch and mate with her right there in the open. I was aware that this sudden feral need for her was caused by the circumstantial position we were both in. Two mates, naked and under the moon, fighting the instinctive pull from their mate bond.
Despite knowing this, I couldn't help myself. I couldn't restrain myself from gently placing my hand around her neck in a loose choking grip, before slamming my lips down against hers.
I could tell that she was shocked by my action because she stood frozen for a while before she began to move her lips slowly to my rhythm.
I was hot for her.
Not like that was any news. Ever since I marked her to get away from having Gina as my Luna, she has been a walking temptation around my palace. It didn't help that she was so beautiful and unaware of how desirable she really was.
My hand left her throat and began to roam down her hands. I wanted to touch her, to feel all of her. I haven't been this close to her since our first and only mating. And I had done that only because of my need for a pup.
Why am I doing this now?
I was suddenly snapped into consciousness of the boundary I was crossing. I had no business wanting Avery in this way.
I broke off the kiss and stepped away suddenly, leaving her staggering and almost losing her balance at the abruptness.
She stared at me in confusion before losing eye contact with me timidly. Her confusion was then replaced by embarrassment. She was a bright red color.
I looked at her emotionlessly before speaking again with a voice that was cold as ice.
“It’s time to get back home and face your punishment”.
