The first light of dawn barely touched Olivier’s room, yet she was already up, carefully packing her bags. Her movements were slow, deliberate, as if trying to hold onto the life she was about to leave behind. Each time she opened her closet, she hesitated, torn between what to take and what to leave. Caspian had bought her a few dresses over the years—small reminders that, even in a loveless marriage, he had thought of her.
“I shouldn’t take anything that ties me to him,” she murmured, pulling only the clothes she had bought with her father’s money.
When she finished, Olivier called her father’s driver to pick her up. Only then did she carefully read the divorce papers. She went over the terms again and again until it finally sank in.
“You’re really getting a divorce, Olivier. No more crying… save it for later,” she whispered to herself.
Ten million dollars. She read the line several times. Caspian was supposed to give her ten million as alimony for agreeing to the divorce. Olivier crossed out the alimony, signed the correction, and then carefully signed every page, finishing with the last part.
A sharp pang hit her chest as she signed next to Caspian’s name. For a moment, she wondered when he had even signed the papers.
When she finished, her trembling hands placed the document on the table. Slowly, she removed her wedding ring, fighting back tears. She allowed herself a few minutes to absorb everything before sitting on the bed.
Her phone vibrated. Expecting her father’s driver, she picked it up—but it wasn’t him. It was the same anonymous number that had been sending her tips about Caspian and Elara. This time, the message was bold, revealing the sender’s identity.
Olivier’s eyes widened as her heart raced. The screen showed a picture of Caspian having coffee in an unfamiliar dining area. His hair was messy, and his office attire wrinkled as if he had just woken up.
The message read: [No matter what you do, he will come back to me. He never loved you. Give up.]
Olivier’s face went pale. She realized the anonymous tipper was Elara Walsh herself. How bold! Her mouth fell open as she flung her head back onto the sheets. She laughed and cried at the same time, letting her emotions pour out.
After several minutes, she composed herself and replied: [So it was you all along, Elara. I never expected this. Well, you can have him. I accept my defeat.]
She had already signed the divorce papers and accepted that Caspian did not love her. But before leaving, she wanted him to know what Elara had done. She took a screenshot of Elara’s message and sent it to him, along with a text:
I agree to the divorce. You can have your ten million. I don’t need it. I am Olivier Bennett, daughter of the world-famous cardio surgeon, Dr. William Bennett. Thank you for everything, Caspian, and I’m sorry… I’m sorry for everything.
She added a note for clarity: By the way, I crossed out the alimony and countersigned it. You don’t need to pay me. And I apologize for sending the picture message—I just thought you should know.
Soon after, her father’s driver called. Olivier took one last look around her room before leaving her marital home for good.
The night before, in a private room at an exclusive club, Caspian was drinking with his friends. His brown eyes narrowed as he stared at his glass. Fingers ran through his dark hair, jaw tightening over a slight beard, before he downed a full glass of liquor.
Setting the glass down, he said flatly, “I’m divorcing Olivier.”
The room went quiet. Finally, one of his friends, Liam, asked, “Are you serious, Caspian?”
“Dead serious,” Caspian replied. Theodore shook his head and added, “Man, we all knew he was jealous of the single life.” He took a large gulp of wine.
“What’s going on?” Rhys asked, curiosity flickering in his eyes as he entered the room.
Liam Reyes, Rhys Donnelly, and Theodore MacGregor had been close friends with Caspian since high school. Though college had scattered them, they always stayed in touch.
Theodore and Liam glanced at Caspian, who was nursing a glass of liquor with a serious expression. Theodore finally spoke. “Caspian… you’re divorcing our beautiful Ollie.”
“What?” Rhys frowned, sliding onto the couch next to Caspian and pouring himself a glass of wine. “Why?”
“Why not?” Caspian replied coldly. “I never wanted to get married two years ago. I was twenty-five, in the prime of my life, with so many plans. It was all my father’s doing, and Olivier just… went along with it. She’s not as innocent as she seems.”
“But I thought things were okay last year?” Liam asked. “Weren’t you two going on occasional dates?”
“A few dinners, yes,” Caspian scoffed, his voice sharp. “But those were just to keep my father happy. I endured it. Now, my father can no longer run the company, and I’ve been given full control. I’m free to make my own choices—and this marriage isn’t one of them.”
“Besides, I’ve had enough of her constant jealousy and insecurity!” Caspian added, his voice sharp.
A heavy silence fell over the four friends. Finally, Rhys broke it. “Is this… because of Elara Walsh?”
Caspian hesitated. “I don’t know, man.”
Theodore leaned forward. “I mean… you’ve been spending time with Elara lately, and you kept it a secret from Ollie. It’s natural for her to feel jealous.”
“Who I choose to be friends with isn’t her business,” Caspian said curtly, taking another swig of alcohol. Then, with a challenging glance, he asked, “Whose side are you on?”
The room grew tense, the air almost icy. Minutes passed, filled only with the clink of glasses. Finally, Liam broke the silence. “So… are you only trying to be friends with Elara? Or is she going to be your girlfriend after the divorce?”
Caspian paused, thinking deeply. That had been the plan before he was forced into marriage. Now, circumstances had changed. He still felt a sense of responsibility toward Elara, but his feelings were uncertain, tangled, and unresolved.
Despite his doubts, Caspian shot back, “Why not? I brought Elara to Meadow View two years ago with that intention.”
Immediately, he noticed the varied reactions from his friends. Rhys scoffed. Liam sneered. Theodore bit his lip. Annoyance surged through him.
“What the hell is wrong with all of you?” Caspian demanded, casting them an intimidating glare.
“Nothing, Caspian… it’s just…” Liam glanced at Theodore and Rhys, making sure they were on the same page. Then he said, “We just don’t get you.”
Rhys nodded. He had known Caspian since they were kids. Caspian used to care deeply for Olivier, and everyone had assumed they’d end up together. That all changed the day he came home with Elara Walsh.
“What do you mean you don’t get me?” Caspian asked sharply.
Rhys shook his head. “Sure, they might seem similar at first glance, but look closer—they’re worlds apart. It’s not just about looks. It’s everything: Olivier’s background, her character…”
He raised his left hand above his head. “This is Olivier.”
Then he lowered his right hand below his waist. “And this… this is Elara Walsh.”
“That’s the difference between them. Any man would choose Olivier over Elara. We just don’t understand how you could pick Elara over your own wife,” Rhys said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
“Then!” Caspian shouted, his voice echoing across the room. “Why don’t you marry her?!”
Anger surged through him. He shoved the liquor bottles off the table, sending them crashing to the floor and spilling their contents across the tiles. Straightening his coat, he turned as if to leave, trying to escape their judgment.
But Rhys wasn’t done. “Are you sure about that, Caspian? Because if you’re not interested in Ollie… I’d be more than happy to pursue her.”
The words hit Caspian like a knife. The thought of Rhys—known for his endless conquests—chasing Olivier filled him with a burning fury. She didn’t belong to a playboy like Rhys.
“Don’t even think about it!”
Caspian snapped, his voice low and dangerous.
