Chapter 4: Midnight Visitor

Maybelle’s POV “You will never see him again!”, this was the only thing I could hear. My father’s voice kept echoing in my head. Nicholas almost carried me out of the throne room. He walked me to my room in the north wing of the castle and made my seat on my bed. “May! Is that true?”, he asked again, sitting by my side, holding my hands. I looked into his eyes. It felt like something had taken away my voice. I nodded my head while I could feel tears on my cheeks. “That’s amazing!”, he chuckled, wiping my tears. “Be strong, May! Look at your mate. He beat me up terribly. I could hardly believe that he is a human!”, he said with a smile this time. I looked at him in amusement! How could he say something like that in such a situation? He hurt him really badly. I could still see some fresh wounds on his body. “Do not look at me like that, Maybelle.”, he said again. “He hurt you, Nicholas”, I said in a sad voice. “To be truthful, Maybelle, I liked him. He never meant to hurt me May.”, he said again. Was he out of his mind? Did he hurt his head during the fight? What was he thinking? “What’s wrong with you, Nick?”, I asked him. “Haven’t you seen others who fought with him? They all were bleeding terribly. Some of them have lost their limbs. But he never went harsh on me, May. And that is the sole reason I am still able to walk.”, he explained. He was right! He was merciful towards Nicholas with respect to others. Whoever fought against him was unable to walk out of the arena on their own. But it was different for Nicholas. But would father understand that? Nicholas was the one who attacked first. Nick squeezed my hands a little. “Don’t be worried about father, May. He will understand. He is our father, after all!”, he assured me again. “Thank you, Nicholas,” I said with a sad smile. “Have some rest. We both had a long day”, he said, caressing my cheek, before leaving my room.  Nicholas and I were always close. We both shared the same bond. We understood each other. I knew he would always be by my side, but I still could not let go of the discomfort in my heart. I changed into my nightgown while thinking about all these. I blew out all the candles and laid on my bed. But my mind was not in peace. “You will never see him again!” “His aura! He has an aura of a werewolf. His aura is as strong as your father’s. But it is purest among all the auras I have seen till date” “Be strong, May! Look at your mate. He beat me up really bad. I could hardly believe that he is a human!” All these kept repeating in my head. His aura! It was strong and pure, like my father's. He was too strong to be a human! ‘Who are you?’, I asked in my mind. I closed my eyes. I could clearly see his unkempt silver blond hair, his mesmerizing light brown eyes. And his smell. Pinewoods! I could still smell it in my room. Suddenly I realized someone’s presence inside my room. ‘Could it be?’ I sat on my bed. As soon as I moved my head towards the balcony, a strong hand covered my mouth. My eyes became wide open. His face was inches away from mine. I could not think straight! Was it really him? Or was I just imagining? But I could feel sparks on my skin. “Sash,” he whispered, putting a finger on his lips, before removing his hand. I extended my hand to touch his face. My hand was trembling. “Is this really you?” I sounded more like I asked myself. He chuckled. It was really him. Then the reality hit me. He was inside my room! How did he even get in? What if he got caught? Why was he even here? “What are you doing here?” I asked him again. My heart was beating faster and faster with every passing second. “I told you, princess, we will meet again,” he said in a husky voice. His eyes! They looked so familiar. Like I knew them from before. They seemed like they were hiding a lot from me. Suddenly I realized I was in a ballroom. It looked familiar. I looked around. Then only I realized it was very much similar to the main hall of the western castle. I had been here so many times. It was beautifully decorated. Then I saw her again! Was that me? Her eyes, her hair, her lips, her nose. We both looked alike! The only difference was she was thinner and paler. She was wearing a light pink ball gown. Her attire was enough to let everyone know about her identity. Her light brown hair was tied up in a fancy way. She must be royalty, I thought. But today she smelt different. She smelt like roses. It was not my scent. I saw a man took her hands and lead her to the middle of the hall. It seemed to be an engagement ceremony. The lady went near a middle-aged man. He also looked familiar to me, but his aura. It was dark and scary. She bowed in front of him, showing courtesy, and that man kissed her forehead with adore. She smiled back. Then I saw him again! I walked near him. I could see his face as clear as daylight now. My mate was standing there wearing royal attire that was complimenting his skin perfectly. His shoulder-length silver hair was properly combed. It was shining in the moonlight. I again sensed the kingly aura around him. His mesmerizing light brown eyes were looking intensely at that shadow of mine. They were talking about something, but I could not hear a thing despite I was standing right by their side. I could not understand what was happening. I tried to talk to them, but it seemed they could not hear me. “What about her?”, I heard my mate asking the man with a dark aura showing that lady. I became curious. But I could not hear a thing again. And then, the lady became so sad and her eyes showed the pain of betrayal. She kept looking at my mate. Then another man took her to the middle of the dance floor. Her eyes looked sad as ever. They were vacant. I could sense an immense pain in my heart. It was like someone snatched my heart away and then squeezed it hard. They started to dance, but it felt like melancholy had surrounded the hall. I could feel the emptiness in my heart. So much pain!  “Princess!”, then I felt someone shaking my shoulder. I felt like I woke up from some daze. Was I daydreaming? I was panting. “Are you alright?”, he asked me nervously. I did not understand what just happened! Was I dreaming again? But how could it be? I was not asleep even. Was that him doing this to me? He was not a normal human, and I could sense that. Was he a witch? Or something similar? I looked into his eyes again. “Are you doing this to me?”, I asked him in a sad tone. He looked puzzled, but he kept silent. “Please stop this! These are painful!”, I told him again. He looked at me worriedly. His eyes became sad. Just the way I saw a few minutes before. Did I hurt him? He sighed while wiping my tears from my cheeks. I did not even realize that I was crying. “You seemed tired, princess. You need to rest”, he spoke, caressing my cheek warmly, before I could say something. “Good night, princess”, he said with a small smile and then softly planted a kiss on my forehead before walking towards the balcony, and then he disappeared in the dark.
