Chapter 6: Rogue – Part II

Suddenly Maybelle felt a warm touch on her cheek. She was wheezing. What was it all about? These visions were driving her crazy. Was her father really going to kill her? She could not think for another moment. She was trembling out of fear. “Are you alright?”, she heard a familiar warm voice. That voice with a warm touch brought her back into her senses, and she smelt it. Pinewoods. Her mate! He saved her again. She opened her eyes gradually. She saw a pair of light brown eyes were looking at her, anxiously. She could not hold back anymore. She hugged him tightly, wrapping her hands around his neck. “I thought… I thought…”, Maybelle could not say anymore. Her voice was choked. “They are all gone now, princess. It’s safe now”, he said in a consoling tone, caressing her back softly. He was hugging her back. She could still see those lustful eyes of those rogues. There was so much darkness in their gaze. That was so familiar. She felt like it was a part of her nightmares that she was having nights after nights for months now. That never-ending darkness! Maybelle shivered again, despite her mate’s warm embrace. Suddenly she saw a candle in the darkness. She was not in the woods anymore. She was in a room. It took her only a few moments to realize that she was inside her own room, the last room of the north wing by the garden in the western castle. Her eyes fell on a petite torso sitting on the bed. She was wearing a milky white nightgown. Her waist-length light brown hair was untied. Her ocean green eyes looked worried. She looked in better health. Her skin was flawless. It seemed like she was having a conversation with her wolf. Maybelle walked near her. There was no doubt that it was her. But why she always looked so sad! She never understood the meaning of all these visions she got. They always felt so real. Suddenly that lady stood up and walked towards the open window in a hurry. Maybelle followed her out of curiosity. She saw four werewolves standing in the yard, near the woods. Another man was also there by their side. But there were no guards. Maybelle became surprised so was that lady. That man was also a little strange to her. He was wearing a black cloak. She could hardly see his face. They were standing in a circle. A big sack was placed in the middle. That man started to draw something on the ground with a wooden stick. Who was that man! His smell was also foreign to her. That man was sending goosebumps to her skin. A dark aura surrounded him in such a way that it was protecting him from light. That lady looked astonished and tensed at the same time. She was about to leave her room, but she came back to the window again. She kept looking at them with wide eyes. Maybelle was still in confusion. She did not know what was happening. And who was that other man? He was not a werewolf. He was chanting something, moving around the circle. It seemed to be a ritual to her. But with all that darkness around them, Maybelle could say that they were up to no good. Suddenly that man opened the sack and one of those werewolves came forward. Then he took a dagger from that man and stabbed something. Maybelle’s eyes became wide open! She saw it was a lady. And that man! He must be a witch! It was a ritual. She heard about rituals from Zura. She knew some rituals required scarification, but those were forbidden ones. She was panting. It was such a terrible sight! She looked at that lady standing next to her. She looked so broken. Maybelle again took another better look at those wolves. They looked familiar to her. ‘who are these people? I kept seeing them,’ she thought. “This is terrible,” Maybelle heard her murmur before she ran towards the door. Then she felt a tight hug. The muscular arms around her torso were giving her assurance. She smelt pinewoods again. She could feel her head was leaning against his chest. She could hear a steady heartbeat. “It's alright, princess. Calm down! No one can harm you until I am alive”, she heard his soothing voice again. His smell was making her relax this time. She took a few deep breaths. “Why are you here?” She asked. Her arms were still around his neck. “Because you are here,” he replied softly. She could feel his breath on her ear. “Are you following me?” She asked again as she gulped. “What if I say yes?” He said with a chuckle. “May I ask why?” Maybelle whispered. He pulled away and cupped her face. His eyes were looking into hers. They looked familiar to her. “I do not know! Something about you pulls me, princess”, he said in a husky voice, while caressing her cheeks with his thumbs. Their faces were inches away. He moved his face a little more to close the distance. Their noses were touching each other. Then he rested his forehead on hers. Maybelle could feel sparks everywhere. Did he feel the mate bond too? Maybelle thought to herself. “Who are you?”, she asked in a shattered voice. He pulled away again. His gaze was locked with hers. She felt his eyes could read through her mind. “If you are looking for a name, Dimitry it is,” he said. Dimitry! Why did it sound familiar? Before Maybelle could say anything, she heard a groan. They both looked towards Roger. He was still unconscious. “Roger!” Maybelle ran towards him again and sat by his side. She almost forgot about him. Was that the effect of mate bond that made you forget everything? “Please, you need to help us. He has been stabbed by silver”, Maybelle said again in a trembling voice. Dimitry sighed. “Stay here”, he said, more like commanded. Maybelle nodded her head in agreement while trying to wipe off the blood from his wounds with her handkerchief. Dimitry left reluctantly.  Soon enough he came back with the carriage and some leaves. He placed the leaves on his wounds gently. He tore a piece of his cloth and tied up the wounds. Maybelle was watching him curiously. “This will help him,” he said. Then he came towards Maybelle. He was holding a mall pouch. He scanned her every wound. Maybelle looked into his eyes again. He looked hurt. Was it because of the mate bond? Could he also feel it? Dimitry cleaned all the blood from her wounds with great care. Then he opened the pouch and applied some paste to her wounds. After that, he carried the enormous trunk of Roger inside the carriage with ease. Then he turned towards Maybelle. “Please get into the carriage. I know there is a town nearby. You will get help there,” he said with a warm voice. Maybelle nodded and sat inside the carriage. She was exhausted. Dimitry took the leashes and drove the carriage away from the woods, towards the town.
