Chapter 12: The Transmigrator and Aileen (12)

1219 Words
For days to come, Althea has never forgotten to remind Aileen how the mysterious woman clung at the Crown Prince and how the man kept groping her. She said it was both romantic and excessively inappropriate especially in public places. Ye Ai didn't answer even after her thousandth repeat and Althea thought she basically won this war of attrition. Emboldened with her success in her plans, she once again focused with her projects. There was a profuse acceptance from the capital with her 'inventions' and so she started to endeavor and push her ideas further. She became much busier everyday as she attended almost every party and invitations just so she may expand her networks. When she spoke outside, she was very cautious for she knew her ideas may seem to be a form of treason to the Crown. But of course, she has a circle of her most trusted confidants and most of them came from the nobility, both noblemen and ladies. She very much appreciated these people who she called 'those who can see the bigger prospect of her ideals to conquer the future'. She just knew she couldn't be wrong. Her ideals were far different from the barbarous ancient people like from her world. She knew the warpath these old men used was underproductive since it was all about killing each other! Her ideals were the best and already successful back in her world. The nobles also followed her for the same reason; they believed her ways were more elegant than the ferocious tales of their kingdom's history—war and blood. Globalization. She avidly proclaimed how it may change the whole world; how a single country seemed to lead all other countries in the world. It was the modern way of conquering the world. She described them as how she saw her original world, prosperous, full of high-technology, modern, majestically powerful. She spoke about the high-rise building, the great inventions, the wonder of transportation and many others. People were as fascinated as she spoke candidly as if she had really lived that era. What they didn't know was she really did. And the first step to achieve this was capitalism. Capitalism, as she explained, equaled to private ownership. This meant the people may own what they worked, gain rights against slavery and serfdom, break the curse of exploitation not only of the laborers but also the resources of the country, and having a fair tax system. This meant the country had to have a firm and fair legal, civil and moral laws to govern and protect with unbiased view whether one's rich or not. And the first step to propagate capitalism was to change the government. Althea happily returned to the grand mansion, the smile on her face was leaking. She had a very fruitful meeting with her friends and new recruits. Soon, when they'd present her proposals to the Royal Family she didn't believe the latter would have any chance to reject especially when their officials and the public calls for a change. In fact, she believed the royal family will soon just be an empty shell. "Young Miss, welcome back." Althea turned to see her maid, this world's protagonist, Aileen, genially smiling at her. She both felt irritated how this girl kept her incorruptibility after all her mistreatments and worn-out for she had to think that she's actually wasting time with all her attention with her. She didn't know if the world was simply protecting her against contamination or she's simply too dense to learn she's being bullied. "En." "Would you want some refreshments and desserts?" "En." "Which would it be? How about your poofing and bell-o?" "It's pudding and jell-o," she deadpanned. She had these kinds of exchange almost every day. Sometimes she had the warring idea that this girl was making fun of her but when she asked the other servants and even Matron Rone, they all said she's simply too dense, hard to teach intellectually but still very eager to learn. "Yes, that, s-sorry..." "Fine. Just get them." "And poppy for your drinks?" "It's coffee!" "Oh, yes, yes. So sorry. I'll get them quick." "Don't make them. Let the kitchen prepare and just deliver it by the garden." "By your command, Young Miss." Althea walked towards the garden and sat on the resting seats which were surrounded with still blossoming and already thriving flowers and shrubberies. She silently waited for Aileen and was simply letting the breeze lift her hair softly.  She remembered when she first woke up in this world, she thought everyone has set her up in a prank show but days had already passed and things were still the same. People were running around, serving her and calling her Young Miss instead of her name, Althea. She had also met her supposed father, the Grand Duke and had the physician checked on her because of her sudden coma. Nothing was found with her health and was only told to rest. Days passed by and she learned her engagement with the Crown Prince was annulled by other side. Of course, as a modern woman it wasn't really a big deal to her especially since she didn't know the man. But she saw how her 'father' took the brunt of the rumors and jeers of the world and decided to pay them back. Aside from she couldn't find her mobile phone to contact anyone, she was simply shocked with the technology around. She hated the lanterns and gas burners, the stupid bath that has no shower, the bumpy carriage instead of her own comfortable car and many other complaints. But she liked the sceneries and the fresh foodstuffs here and also since she has now plans towards a better future in case she couldn't return so she made it out in her first few days and until today.  However, she still missed her own world sometimes. She's closing in a year now in this new but ancient world. She's not familiar with this world. She liked how well her life here amidst the backwater technology. She basked in the glory of her flourishing reputation not only in the kingdom but soon in every kingdom in the world. And yet, she felt incomplete. Can she still go back? But she has no idea how to go back. She didn't dare to hope, afraid to be let down. She had people she left back home but she also has people here to take care—her loving new father, the Grand Duke, and the betterment of this world. Everything was on her shoulders, a prosperous future for everyone without slavery and unfair system.  And so she finally decided to work with all she got. She finally accepted if she cannot return then why don't she live well and fulfilled in this new one? Her feelings started to unknot as she finally embraced who she came to be now. She felt a peculiar sensation as if loads on her shoulders were being lifted up, giving her rest and warmth. She didn't even realize that she's actually shining while thinking all these. And even unknown to her, just beyond the garden stood someone whose pair of eyes stared her mirthfully. She was holding the white lump on her arms as she eagerly stroked it unconsciously.
