Chapter 14: The Transmigrator and Aileen (14)

It was so quiet after that occasion and many felt ominous. It felt like the calm before the tempest. There were those who stealthily converged to feel each other and share various rumors and thoughts about this tense silence and there were also those who decided to call for vacations, staying away from the capital for the meantime. All in all, the weeks that followed were peaceful, albeit strained. On the other hand, Aileen was imprisoned in the dungeons of the Grand Duke. [Why are we here again, Host Ai?] Xiaoyi returned only to find its host playing the captive of the transmigrated woman. It was so shocked that it failed to even announce how happy it was about its upgrade. What it did was check on the world's progress and wailed. Why did the world progress freeze? There was no movement even after the system's upgrade. "I was found out eavesdropping." [And why were you again eavesdropping?] "They left the door open." [That's not the case! That wasn't even in the plot!] "Nothing's happening according to the plot, Xiaoyi." [But it doesn't mean we need to mess it further!] "I'm not messing it up. We need to know what's that woman's plans or else we'll be working blind." [But you have me ah?] "You can know what they're planning?" [After the upgrade, now I can ah.] "Like seeing them real time?" [Yeah! Am I not good?] "Where were you earlier then?" Ye Ai quickly shot her system's smug expression-sound. [...] "Out of reach, right?" [I was upgrading. I can't help but not able to do anything.] "Exactly. And I have no idea how long you'd be out so I started working." [But you let yourself be caught ah!] "Can't help it, the transmigrated bug was really good." [Why are you even praising her?] "It's sarcasm." [Eh?] "Nothing. So you now hate me for being caught." [I didn't say that, Host Ai...] "Just because you upgraded and can see more information about me you've now started to change how you act with me," she told her system tonelessly. She still didn't want to abandon this system; she just hoped she can still change its impression of her. She wondered what else those administrators encoded under her name. System 3611 can't help remembering those added information when it opened again the network and tried searching about its own Host and partner. [Host: Ye Ai, third generation task taker but a pioneer user!  Percentage of Completion: 99%; Percentage of Bonus Achievement: 100%. Titles Received: 66—65 already deleted. I know I did awful things and I'll understand if you won't like me because of them," she answered in sorrowful bearing. Her eyes were swimming with regret and sadness but in her heart she's burning with hate after all those people did to her and afterwards to those administrators that took her life away. "Just stop treating me nicely if you actually didn't like me anymore. Let's just do our tasks." [Host Ai...] [I...] [I don't care what you did!] [I'm your system now and you'll always have me, I will always help you.] "Xiaoyi..." [I once promised that I will always help you and I will, not because it's my task but because it's what I want to do.] "Why are you so good to me?" she asked deeply moved and relief in her person.  [I know this is beyond my protocol but even if the administrators try to terminate me, you will always have me on your side.] "I will never let anyone hurt you, you're my Xiaoyi and what's mine can't be touch by anyone," she said in determination. Her eyes flashed and the previous sadness was now replaced and showed her resolve. [Me too, I won't let anyone hurt you under all my capabilities.] "It's a promise." [It's a promise.] "..." [...] [Um, Host Ai, what was that?] "What was?" [I felt something...] "Something?" [Yeah, like...it felt similar with the world law.] "Wasn't it just the world law?" [...I don't know.] "Don't think about it. Let's plan our next steps," she smoothly changed the topic away from what her system previously felt. It was a binding contract; it was another 'Covenant' but this time between her and Xiaoyi. This will ensure her system's safety unless she's dead, meaning even the administrator wouldn't be able to terminate her system! The Covenant was a powerful Divine Agreement but will only be accomplished if the two parties voluntarily accepted and if there was a divine power that's supporting it. That's why Xiaoyi thought the world's divine law suddenly had a surprise visit. [How can we talk to the Crown Prince while inside this dungeon, Host Ai?] "Didn't the fairytale tell us the Prince will rescue the damsel in distress?" [It's the knight who will save the damsel in distress while the prince will save the princess from the dragon.] "Yeah, that. So we just have to sit tight and wait for my prince charming." [But Host Ai, you told me we should not trust those fairytales.] "Did I? But it really does happen, you know." [...But it didn't here.] "But it doesn't mean that it never will." [Host Ai, are you playing with me?] "Xiaoyi, how could you say that? And I'm here working really hard for both of us," she voiced out with hint of grievance. [Host Ai, don't be angry. I believe you. Okay, okay, what should we do?] Ye Ai smiled brightly at the space in front of her. Oh, how she loved this purity and cuteness! "First, we can't do anything—fight or whatever, since that's a total OOC. We can't afford being found out by the world's consciousness especially now that the world was in chaos." [You're correct.] "But we need to be properly noted with what's happening outside." [I can do that.] "You're the best, Xiaoyi." [Ehehe...] "Then, we need a way to understand where this world is running to. If this continues, there will be a civil war and worst the other countries might just consider raging a war while we're unstable inside." [That would be awful!] "Exactly. So we need to make sure that those won't happen. For now, we can send letters to the Royal Family about the plans of the Grand Duke and his daughter. They need to suppress this rebellion as early as they can." [It's a good thing your family already went to the neighboring country or the malicious transmigrated bug might have done something with them here.] "Yes," Ye Ai hid her sly smile from her system. It was all planned anyway. [The last time I checked on them, your brother Caron was doing much better under the intensive medication.] "That's great then," she smiled at the news. She truthfully wanted to help this family even if they're not real.
