CHAPTER 45 —Dragondrakes Carolyn As night settled slowly over the forest, the rogue camp became even more busy. Lanterns had been lit between the tents, their bright flames that swayed gently in the breeze lightened up the entire area of the camp. The central fire crackled steadily, sending thin lines of smoke curling into the sky. They had given me a place to sleep. “Over there,” one of the men had said earlier, pointing toward a small canvas tent near the outer edge of camp. “You can crash in that one tonight.” It wasn’t much. Just a bedroll thrown onto the ground and a lantern hanging from a hook. But after weeks of sleeping on cold forest floors and abandoned sheds, it felt strangely luxurious.
