Viviana couldn’t sleep that night. The moonlight streamed through the window, casting soft shadows across her room, but her mind raced with everything that had happened. She could still feel the strange power that surged through her when she stood in the forest. It had been unlike anything she’d ever experienced—so raw, so wild, and yet strangely familiar.
She sat up in bed, clutching her blanket as her thoughts spiraled. What was that? Her heart still beat rapidly as the images of the glowing energy and the mysterious voice echoed in her mind. The feeling had been overwhelming, but deep inside, it had felt right—like it was meant to happen. But that only raised more questions. What is happening to me?
Her grandmother’s warnings rang in her ears. The forest is not what it seems. There are forces at work here that you don’t understand.
But Viviana couldn’t shake the feeling that the power she’d felt was a part of her, a part of who she was meant to be. The pull to the forest, the glowing energy, it all felt… familiar, as if it had been waiting for her all along. It was as if the forest knew her, and she knew it. And yet, she still had no idea what was going on.
The quiet of the house was almost oppressive. She felt the stillness in the walls, the kind of silence that spoke of secrets long buried. Her room, though familiar, felt suffocating, as if it no longer belonged to her. The walls, the shadows—everything was different now.
Viviana swung her legs over the side of the bed, her feet touching the cold wooden floor. She had to know more. The events of the night were too vivid to ignore, too strange to let go. She couldn’t keep pretending everything was fine when there was something out there calling to her, pulling her toward the forest.
Her grandmother would be asleep by now, unaware of what had happened. And while Viviana loved her dearly, she knew that her grandmother’s protective nature had its limits. She couldn’t stay in the dark any longer. She had to find out what had awakened inside her.
Without another thought, she crept downstairs, careful not to make a sound. The faint smell of herbs lingered in the air, a comforting scent that reminded her of warm evenings spent by the fire with her grandmother. The house was dark, the only light coming from the faint moonbeam filtering through the cracks in the shutters. But Viviana felt a strange energy in the air, an anticipation that seemed to vibrate through the wood beneath her feet.
She hesitated by the door, her fingers brushing the cold metal of the handle. It was almost as if the door itself was urging her to leave, to step outside and into the unknown. She paused, glancing over her shoulder at the quiet house. Would her grandmother be angry if she found out? Would she even understand?
But the pull from the forest was too strong to resist. Her grandmother had always spoken in riddles, warning her of things she didn’t quite understand. Maybe it was time for Viviana to discover the truth for herself.
Her breath caught as she pushed the door open, stepping into the night. The cool air brushed against her skin, but it didn’t feel cold—no, it felt alive, charged with something she couldn’t explain. The village was still, the only sound the distant croaking of frogs and the soft rustling of leaves in the trees.
Yet, the forest… it was different tonight. The trees seemed to whisper to one another, their branches swaying in a rhythm that didn’t match the usual wind. The path leading into the woods felt like it was waiting for her, calling her forward. She felt drawn to it, as if the earth itself were reaching out to her.
With every step she took, the air grew denser, more charged. She walked slowly, unsure of what to expect, but determined to find answers. The deeper she ventured into the forest, the more the energy seemed to pulse around her, as though the trees themselves were alive, watching her. The ground beneath her feet felt warmer, as if it were glowing softly from within.
Her thoughts were a whirlwind, but one thing was clear—she couldn’t turn back now. Whatever this power was, it was a part of her, and she had to understand it. She had to learn to control it before it controlled her.
As she reached the spot where the energy had surged through her the night before, Viviana felt a shift in the air. The trees here felt ancient, their bark worn and cracked, but they seemed to hum with a quiet, steady rhythm, as though they were in tune with something beyond the realm of the visible. She knelt down, her fingers brushing the soil, and closed her eyes. The whispers she had heard before seemed louder now, swirling around her, carried by the wind.
“Who are you?” she whispered into the night, unsure if she was speaking to the forest, the power, or something else entirely. Her voice was small in the vastness of the woods, swallowed by the darkness, but it felt like the trees themselves were listening.
For a long moment, there was nothing. Only the rustling of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl. Viviana’s heart pounded in her chest. Maybe she had imagined it all. Maybe it was just her mind playing tricks on her. But as she rose to her feet, ready to leave, a soft, melodic voice called out from the shadows.
“Viviana…”
She froze. The voice was unmistakable—gentle, yet carrying an otherworldly weight. Her heart skipped a beat. “Who’s there?” she called out, her voice barely a whisper.
From the darkness, a figure emerged. At first, it was a silhouette, but as it stepped into the moonlight, Viviana’s breath caught in her throat. The woman was tall, regal, with long dark hair that shimmered like the night sky. Her skin glowed faintly, and her eyes gleamed with an ethereal light, reflecting the stars above. She moved with a grace that seemed unnatural, as if she were part of the forest itself.
“Do not be afraid,” the woman said, her voice calm, like the evening breeze. “I’ve been waiting for you.”
Viviana took a step back, her mind reeling. “Who are you?” she demanded, her voice shaking despite her best efforts. “What’s happening to me? What was that power I felt?”
The woman smiled softly, her eyes full of knowing. “Your power is ancient, Viviana. It is part of you, part of this land. You are a child of the elements, just as the forest is. But there is much you do not yet understand.”
“Elements?” Viviana repeated, confusion clouding her thoughts. “What do you mean? My grandmother always warned me about the forest… about things I shouldn’t know.”
The woman’s expression softened. “Your grandmother knows more than she lets on. She’s been trying to protect you, but the time has come for you to understand. The forest calls to you. The power within you is awakening. It’s time for you to embrace it.”
“Embrace it?” Viviana repeated, fear and awe warring within her. “I don’t know how to control it. I don’t even know what it is.”
“You’ve already handled more than you think,” the woman said gently. “The power is inside you, Viviana. It’s always been there, waiting for the right moment. And now that moment has come.”
Viviana’s heart raced. “But what do I do now? Where do I go from here?”
The woman’s eyes glowed brighter, her gaze piercing. “There are others like you. People who can help you understand what you are, what you can become. But you must choose to walk the path. The forest will guide you, but only if you trust yourself.”
Viviana’s breath caught. She felt as if everything had changed in an instant. “I don’t know if I’m ready.”
“You’re more ready than you realize,” the woman said with a smile. “Remember, Viviana, you are never truly alone. The forest is with you.”
Before Viviana could respond, the woman turned, stepping back into the shadows, her figure fading into the trees as if she were one with the forest itself. The faint glow of her eyes was the last thing Viviana saw before she was left standing alone in the dark forest.
Viviana stood there, her heart still pounding, her mind racing with everything the woman had said. The forest seemed quieter now, its energy swirling in the air, but the moment had passed. She was still shaken, still unsure of what to do next. But one thing was certain: she could no longer ignore the truth. Whatever power was inside her, whatever path she was meant to follow, it was calling to her.
And she had no choice but to answer.
