Chapter 6: The Morning After

485 Words
The bright sunlight hit Elena’s face, waking her up slowly. She sat up, stretching her arms, and for a second, she forgot where she was. The soft silk sheets, the huge room, the expensive furniture… then last night came rushing back. The dinner. Aunt Clara’s insults. And Julian — defending her, then shouting at her. She looked across the room. Julian’s side of the bed was already empty and neatly made. He was gone. Just then, the door opened, and a middle-aged woman in a clean uniform walked in, pushing a trolley filled with food. It was Mrs. Janet, the head housekeeper. “Good morning, Ma’am Elena,” she said with a polite smile. “Mr. Julian left early for the office. But he gave strict instructions. You are to get ready quickly. He said you have lessons today — how to act, speak, and behave like a proper wife of a billionaire. He said you have a lot to learn.” Elena bit her lip. Lessons? Like a child? “Where do we start?” she asked, getting out of bed. “First, breakfast,” Mrs. Janet said, uncovering plates of delicious food. “Then, Mr. Julian hired a coach for you. She will be here in one hour. Also… he left this note for you.” Mrs. Janet handed her a small white paper. Elena took it and read Julian’s bold, sharp handwriting: "Rule reminder: You are here to fit in, not to change things. Do exactly what you are taught. And remember — what happened last night was just acting. Do not read feelings where there are none. — J.C." Elena crumpled the paper in her hand, feeling a mix of anger and pain. Why did he have to be so cold? Why did he defend her if he felt nothing? An hour later, the door opened again. A tall, strict-looking woman walked in, wearing glasses and carrying a book. This was Madame Victoria, the best etiquette coach in the city. “Good morning,” she said sharply, looking Elena up and down like she was inspecting goods. “Mr. Cole told me you are… new to this life. My job is to turn you from a village girl into a lady worthy of the Cole name. It will not be easy. We start now. Stand up straight! Shoulders back! Chin up! You are a billionaire’s wife — act like it!” Elena took a deep breath and stood tall. She would learn. She would do it. But as she looked at the woman, she promised herself: I will learn your ways… but I will never lose myself. Little did she know… Julian was watching her from the hidden camera in the room, watching every move she made. And for the first time, he didn't see a project… he saw a woman who was slowly breaking down the walls around his heart.
