CHAPTER 2

"Seems we'll have to send him to the afterlife." Craig's voice stopped me in my tracks, leaving me with no other option than to steal a glance at his notorious face. "What do you mean by that?" I asked. "What does it look like? Your father owes so much that the house alone can't compensate for that. We'd have to kill him and sell his organs to repay his debts," he explained. "Debts?" I exclaimed. "Yeah, your father owes everyone in the debt community, with interest definitely. Nothing is stopping us from killing him today unless you decide to pay it all up within a week from now," Craig let out, revealing his scythe. "Why should I believe you?" I retorted. He gave out a brief smirk before snapping his fingers. Two men rushed in with a whip in their hands from the side, dragging my father along with them. He was bathed in his blood, and his face was already pale. He was cuffed up like a prisoner, and under the state's jurisdiction, it was allowed when it came to this cause. "Show the girl how we do it here," Craig spoke up, gazing into my father's eyes. "Don't do this; we can talk this out." The spillage of blood and the sound of my father wailing as they lashed him with the whip made me uncomfortable. I couldn't watch; I wanted to stop it no matter what. "Fine, I'll get the money for you. Just don't hurt my father," I said. Tears streamed down my face as more blood oozed out from his body. "By this time next week. If you don't have the money before then, your father becomes our organ vendor. I'm sure his heart would be bought for a fair price on an auction," Craig chuckled as he left. The sight of my father being dragged away in blood made me sad. If only my mother were here to stop all this from happening. If only I had stopped him quite earlier. Sebastian was out of the country on a mission to secure a foreign territory from some species they called Lycans and werewolves. He is a werewolf hunter and the best at that, so it was only natural he could help pay the bill if he were in the country. After a nice shower, I decided to visit one of my high school friends named Susie. She is a billionaire and also one of the top contractors in San Francisco. She was the only one who could help me, as the money in my account was only halfway enough to release him from their grasp. After locking the doors, I found my way to the garage where my car was parked. Throwing the garage door upwards, I could see my red range sitting pretty. With the switch of the ignition, I was out of the building and headed to Calistoga, where she lived. As I drove my way there, I could see how peaceful love could be without problems. The laugh, the smile, the joy, and the happiness I dreamed of every single day. "Darcie!" Susie's voice resonated in my ears as I navigated my way through her gate. The sight of a white and gold-painted mansion gave me pleasure. It was evidence that she could help me if I asked her for a loan. "Susie… It's been a long time," I wrapped my arm around her neck, taking her in for a warm hug. "I can see you're still the cold hugger. Glad to see you didn't change that part of you," she teased. "I've had my share of life," I said, breaking the hug. "Come on in, let's talk over some desert," she said, leading the way. I followed her in, observing how well her workers respected her. "I can see you're living a life of luxury. Mind if I join in," I teased, taking my seat at her command. "There's nothing to this if you ask me. Happiness is all that matters; money can't buy permanent happiness; what it brings is temporary," she let out. I wanted to know what exactly she meant by that. I mean, money could make me stress-free, and I wouldn't have to worry about saving my father repeatedly. "So how are your kids?" I asked. Usually, there would be a bunch of children swarming the room as we spoke, but it was empty. "They left for the summer with their father to New York. They wanted to check out the werewolf museum just created in a reserve," she giggled. "Oh, heard about that too. Sebastian had caught one during his mission, and the Mayor of New York had made it into a source of income," I explained. "I see you're still with your high school sweetheart Sebastian. Haven't you guys gotten married yet?" she questioned. "We decided to wait a little bit due to his mission overseas. I don't want to bug him about that," I let out. "That's true. He hardly ever replies, My husband.". That's when it dawned on me. Susie had gotten married to Sebastian's best friend four years ago. They had only dated for 2 years, unlike us, who were in our seventh year and had still not decided. "What about your father? Hope he's stopped his habit of drinking," she inquired. "That's why I'm here, actually.". "What happened to the old geezer this time? Did he get in trouble for breaking a man's head in the bar like last time or using your allowance to stake on a dying horse?" she questioned, acknowledging the troubles my father had faced in the past. "It's different the time. He is in huge debt, and his debtors have threatened to eliminate him if I couldn't get the money on time. 2 million dollars to be precise," I explained. "That's quite much," she exclaimed. "Is there a way you can lend me such an amount?" "I would have, but my account got frozen yesterday when my husband transferred some funds to me." "Ohh, I guess that's the end then.". "There is still a way you can make that amount of money in a week," she let out. "And how's that?". "Become a surrogate mother.".
