Chapter 9 - Like Mother Like Daughter

It took a while to get the laptop up and running. After an hour Lucis and I decided the best idea would be to get back to sleep. And do what needed to be done… after school. Yeah right. I had begged Lucis if we could make a bed in the basement. It was peace full down there and it would help me sleep. Of course, that didn’t happen, what did happen though was Lucis roughly f*****g me into next month. I won’t lie, it was pretty tiring.

“I don’t want to go just yet,” I said watching Lucis getting dressed, that was a bit of a lie I didn’t want to go period.

“People are going to think that you have been kidnapped if you don’t make an appearance and stay at campus today.

“oh come on I only have two classes today, what the difference if I know most of the stuff already from helping other people”

“by other people you mean that moron of an ex…” he trailed off as he looked at me. I made my eyes big and doe-like with a trembling lip “no, nope no that isn’t going to work on me, up you get” Lucis said as he scooped me up off the bed.

“little black dress on now”

“I prefer what I have on already” he looked at me in my strap top and hot pants “fine go in that” he dared me.

“ugh fine” he came up behind me as I got dressed

“as much as I would love to stay in bed with you little demon, you need to show your face.”

“Okay what if,” I started, Lucis looked at me with a raised eyebrow, “oh wait I get it,” I said looking down at the floor “you want to leave”

“not at all,” he said holding my face in his hands “no little demon that is the last thing I want, but people need to see you”

“f**k people” I sat down on the bed with my arms crossed

“what were you going to propose?”

“that I go home after the two classes, pack a bag and come here for the rest of the week?” I said looking at my feet that were dangling in the air. Lucis pushed me down on the bed and half lay on me

“I like that idea” he whispered in my ear before kissing my jaw. “but firs” he pulled me back up “show your face”

“Fine, fine,” I said slipping on the heels I had on the day before. I walked to the bathroom to freshen up and get my hair done.

The two classes I had for the day were a nightmare, one got canceled for the day, so I was tuck in the library until the second one started. That class took forever to finish. When it did eventually finish I made my way home, the walk to the house was nice. Hearing the birds sings and seeing how the trees were starting to get orange made me think of Master maker. I longed to be back in the game and see the beauty that it held. I unlocked the door to the house, I didn’t expect to see my mother so I walked straight to my room and started to pack a bag.

“nice to see you” I looked up to see my mother in the doorway. I smiled at her and she returned a weak one of her own

“they are doing a dress fitting today again, want a ride there?” he said looking at me

“already?”

“The wedding is in two weeks; I guess they want everything sorted before they deal with the small details”

“I guess, it’s okay though I’ll ask Lucis to take me”

“Lucis huh? Is that where you were last night?”

“yip, going to stay there the rest of the week”

“then please let me take you, I feel like I never see you anymore” I continued packing, eventually giving in when I heard my mother sigh

“Okay I’ll let him know where I am when we are done,” I said looking up at her. She smiled at me and walked away. I picked up my phone which weirdly enough buzzed while it was in my hand

My mother wants to take me

 I sent Lucis the directions to the dress shop, the poor guy was probably going to be bored out of his mind. But if he wanted to be there I saw no reason why not.

During the drive to the dress shop, my mother was very quiet, she would now and then ask something but that was it, she wasn’t her talkative self.

“mom?” I called she was staring in front of her “mom” I said louder

“huh” he answered looking at me

“you okay? You are staring”

“I’m okay honey”

“you sure?” she didn’t answer it was more of a humming noise that she made than anything else. I did drop it though; I didn’t want to keep poking at the bear if there was nothing to poke at. We arrived at the dress shop first, the woman that was helping had me up in a dress and was busy pulling the dress this way and that to get the perfect fit.

“This won’t do,” she said pulling at the sweetheart neckline, “your boobs are much too big for this style, and with your tiny waist you might topple over with this”

“is there another style you would recommend then?” Alison walked through the door, her nose held up in the air like she smelt something bad. Her voice immediately seemed to put me in a bad mood.

“a low plunge perhaps,” the seamstress said, Alison nodded her approval and the lay scampered off to find a dress

“Perhaps we could go with the lighter grey, I feel this pink is too harsh for my future stepdaughter's skin,” Alison said loudly, she smiled at me and then looked at my mother “so nice to see here too,” she said although her words were dripping with sarcasm. The lady came back carrying a dove grey dress in her hands,

“this way please sweetie,” she said to me and took me behind a curtain

“yes well MY daughter and I have a bit of catching up to do so we thought it would be the best before she spends time by her friend”

“a friend, I guess she can’t wait to get away from you either” I didn’t hear my mother answer but I did hear the shop door and close again, I got the dress on in a hurry and hurried back out, my mother was still standing there with an annoyed looking Alison.

“Mona” Alison said could you please help this gentleman so that he can leave my appointment” I followed her gaze and saw Lucis standing against the wall.

“Actually,” I said getting Alison’s attention “I invited him,” I said folding arms

“and what made you think that was appropriate, I mean you are getting in and out of dresses”

“I’m her boyfriend” Lucis suddenly said looking at me as he said it

“Her what?” Alison said breathlessly, “this girl is with that i***t of a doctor”

“they broke up” my mother piped up, “almost a week ago and I would appreciate it if you didn’t be so rude to MY daughter” she crossed her arms over her chest and half smirked. The door opened again in walked a younger version of Alison.

“Why does she get that style?” her voice was weirdly how pitched

“her chest is too big to fit in the one we originally chose,” Alison said with a smirk “I guess it does suit her better,” she said walking up to me and picked at the dress.

“great so I can leave” I snapped and walked towards the changing area

“Not so fast” Alison snagged my arm, we need to have this pulled in more, she snatched the dress tightly around my waist

“I don’t think that will work the seamstress said looking at the dress, you are going to make her look out of place”

“nonsense,” Alison said pulling it in more

“fine. Can I go now” the seamstress put in the pins she needed and walked with me to the changing area to help me out the dress?

As I walked out of the mini-me Alison was standing in the bright pink dress that I had originally had on

“I want the grey one too”

“now, now honey, you are the maid of honor so we need you to stand out’ I rolled my eyes at the two and walked towards the door

“oh dearly, we need you to be an hour early on the day for the before and after photos”

 I walked out the door with my mother hot on my heels, we walked to the car and I grabbed my bag out the back,

“I’ll see you soon” I hugged my mother and looked back to see Lucis standing by his car

“He seems nice” my mother whispered and hugged me again. I walked towards Lucis, he held out his hand and walked closer to me. Wrapping his arm around my waist and dragging me closer.

“boyfriend huh? Shouldn’t we have had a little chat about that first?”

“you don’t want me to be your boyfriend?” I lifted my brow at him “I believe you still have a question for me?”

“can you open the door this bag is kind of heavy” I giggled as his face dropped for a second but then he took the bag from me and pulled me back up against his body kissing me hard? As he opened the door and threw the bag into the back seat. He pulled away and I looked up at him.

“so will you be my date to this massive mistake that my father is making?”

“I would be glad to,” he said with a low voice, “get in, let’s go”

“ready?” Lucis asked looking me in the eye

“yeah” while I had been out Lucis had apparently moved the house around, at least some of the rooms anyway, he moved some of the things that were in the basement to the bedroom and everything that was in the bed room was now the new arrangement in the basement.

He walked over to his desk and sat as he placed his headset on, I did the same and logged into Master maker. I was transported back into the game. I could feel myself smiling I longed to be back here and I was taking in all the sounds and colors. I walked out into the dead land taking a deep breath at the sight.

“come on” I heard Lucis say as he walked passed me, I followed him as he followed his creature, I took note of a shadow that always seemed to be looming over us. I looked up to see my dragon. I felt a burst of a giggle in my throat as we kept running through the orange-colored trees and shrubs eventually getting to the bright green and fruit-bearing plantation. Lucis stopped at what looked like an inn, the keeper was standing at the door

“Good day Adventures, there has been talking of a red dragon in these parts, it has been causing mounds of destruction in these parts, some bandits keep stealing its eggs. Won’t you help?”

We accepted the challenge.

“wonderful, inside the inn were a few men talking” the innkeeper stopped talking and left us with only that bit of information. I pushed open the door of the inn, inside there was a large counter that had another man behind it,

“Welcome to the Goat’s Horn's inn,” he said as we walked by. There were three small tables around the other side of the Inn, 3 men sat at one of the small tables whispering amongst themselves while a woman walked around aimlessly.

“come” Lucis whispered leading me over to the table of men.

“We understand that you have information about the dragon?” Lucis said to the three men

“ay, but you are going to need more than just the two of you for this”

“We have others”

“well then you best be on your way, the forest of the dead will be where you find what you seek”
