Two Can Play This Game

Raphael “We’ve searched the whole country but there still no trace of–” “Find her if you want your limbs intact!” I raved, anger and dread lacing my voice, “Useless fools.” It's been a week since they lost sight of the lady I tasked them to watch and protect from a distance. They've been doing this for five years, how did they suddenly lose her? They had to find her, she's still my woman, my first love and she was mine no matter– “The President has called for you, sir,” Greg announced just when I was about to step into the car. I hissed under my breath and I heard Ryan, my wolf, groan in annoyance. This old man was such a pain in the ass but I knew Ryan’s excitement to get to work on time wasn't the billion-dollar deal we intend to bag tomorrow, it was Adele Jenkins that made Ryan giddy for some reason. Slut! He was never even interested in my work. When I got to my Father's quarters, he was seated with his brother, both dressed in robes and getting their legs massaged. “I don't have all the time in the world,” I said as I walked in. My Father ignored me, grabbing the wine glass from my uncle and draining it. Before I could register what the hell was up with him, the glass crashed against the wall behind me. Of course, that was only because I was fast enough to dodge the object from hitting right at my face. I heard my Father grunt as he shifted in his chair. “You're fast in everything except getting a wife.” The two older men burst out in laughter and that's when I noticed Israel, my twin brother resting against a wall at the corner. His forehead was bleeding and it took me a lot of self-control to not laugh at him. We must have been tested the same way but obviously, he wasn't lucky enough. Quite hilarious. “I heard you refused the lady given to you last night.” “You heard right,” I answered dismissively. “What a shame,” my uncle clicked his tongue, “I went through so much again to find female werewolves just for the both of you to throw it over the boat.” I sighed. “As the next Alpha, I’m capable of finding a suita–” “You're not the next Alpha!” Israel fired from his corner. I heaved, not ready for any family drama. I ought to be focusing on the deal that's taken three years of hard work from me and my staff. I needed this deal, it was a stepping stone to becoming the president of Reigns Empire and whoever is the president is also the Alpha. Without another word, I strutted out of the building. “You son of a b***h! I'm not done talking!” My Father yelled after me. ~ ‘Phew! What a relief. Adele may get uninterested if you show up with a scar on your face,’ ‘Can you just shut up!’ I cautioned my wolf as I stepped into the elevator. Ryan was beginning to piss me off, he has been on and on about Adele when we should be focusing on the deal with Mr. Wener. ‘She’s coming! She's coming!’ My wolf jumped excitedly. I didn't get to ask any questions when Adele appeared. Just one look at her and I could understand why Ryan won't stop running his mouth. How can she be so gorgeous? She greeted me with a smile before joining me in the elevator. “Good morning, Mr Raphael,” She said, “It's so good to see you.” How did Ryan know she was coming? Mate scent? Hell no! That great fragrance was probably her cologne. A mate's scent would definitely be way stronger. “You look pleased, Miss Adele.” “Yeah,” she nodded, “happiness is fre–” “You're tardy and you've got a smile on your face!” I rebuked, my voice a little more harsh than I intended. “Oh! Something unexpected came up but I'd try my best to not let this happen again because I love my job and I don't want to lose it any time soon.” I stared at her in bemusement, “This job is important to me, sir, I hope you can overlook my tardiness today.” She added. “Weren't you showing great displeasure in working here yesterday?” “Yesterday is now in the past, Mr Raphael.” “Then you must also remember that yesterday, I said you'd continue your unfinished work with me.” “Yesterday is now in the past, Mr Raphael.” She repeated with more firmness this time and I couldn't help but smile. I gave her a long stare, using the opportunity to admire her facial features; doe-like eyes, covered with emerald hue and accompanied by long lashes, My eyes diverted to her hands, remembering the crazy sensation they made me feel two days ago. “You take this matter too lightly knowing that your video is just a click away from the Internet,” I smirked Getting a woman's back on my bed has never been difficult, and it won't start now. “Is that a threat?” she arched a brow. “Maybe?” “The HP infection is transmittable, isn't it?” She pinched her nose and shrugged, “f**k me at your own risk, Mr Raphael.” Was she trying to scare me off with an infection? A white lie but… two can play this game. It'd only be a matter of days before I get to f**k her as I please. ~ *Deal day* The meeting was scheduled for 2 pm but even after an hour of waiting, there was still no sign of Mr Werner. Adele was showing displeasure at the delay and I've lost count of how many times she has hissed and cussed under her breath, but I paid her no attention. It was pretty usual. Over the years of trying to work with Mr Werner, he has never shown up earlier than 50 minutes late, not even when we went all the way to Germany. Mr. Werner was a man in his early fifties, leading the biggest clothing brand in Germany. Bringing his brand to Reigns Fashion was no child's play. After about 10 more minutes of waiting, he finally walked in, wearing his usual stern and dismissive look, his lawyer, elegantly trailing behind him. “Good day, Mr Werner.” “Hello, Mr. Raphael, I hope you didn't wait for too long.” He said, receiving my stretched hand in a handshake. “Not at all,” I smiled, “This is my lawyer, Miss Adele.” I introduced, but that didn't seem necessary as it appeared that they'd met before. “Hello, Mr Werner, it's a pleasure to have you here,” She flashed him a smile but Mr Werner was frozen at her sight. His prior countenance was washed off with trembling hands, creased forehead, and flickering eyes. I stared inquisitively, wondering what was going on between the duo. It didn't look so good. Adele took his hand in a handshake, making Mr Werner flinch. He didn't even sit until she gestured for him to. Mr Werner slumped into his chair, groaning in discomfort. He cleared his throat, seemingly gaining some stance as he spoke; “L– let's cut to the chase,” he said and I nodded in agreement. “Let's see what you have for us, Mr Raphael.” “For a start, Reigns Fashion will be offering a front page exposure in our monthly magazines,” I began, readily, “Our chart ratio from January has shown great–” “Mr Werner?” Adele called out, cutting me off. My jaw tightened and my brows furrowed. “Yes?” The older man replied, avoiding her gaze and fiddling with the pen in his hands. “The proposal has already been sent to you, all that's left is–” She opened the contract file, “– your signature, Mr. Werner.” “Oh, y- yes, yes. That's true,” He forced a smile that didn't reach his eyes and began penning his signature on the pages. My mouth fell open. It felt unreal. Just like that? No way! I've been trying for three years but Mr Werner always brought up ridiculous requirements and expectations, giving my staff and me sleepless nights. I diverted my attention to Adele who was already leaning in my direction. “Twenty percent of the net profit would come to me,” she whispered to my ears. “That's ridiculous.” “Should I ask him to shred those papers?” As much as I hated her audacity, I wouldn't forfeit this deal. “I guess twenty percent isn't too much.” She gave me a curt nod with her lips curved in a small smile. After the contract signing and seeing Mr Werner off, I still couldn't believe that my three years of hard work was a minute work for Adele. “That was quite impressive, Miss Adele,” I uttered, breaking the silence in the car as we drove back to the company. “That's why you should make me your ally.” Taken aback, I asked; “I thought I was the egocentric brother you wanted to send to the mud. You wanted to work for my brother.” “It doesn't matter which brother it is as long as I get my fair share.” I wanted to ask why she was glued to my brother yesterday but I held myself back. She was already falling into my trap; Keep your enemies close and bind them by a contract. “To become the Alpha, I need to achieve a milestone in my business and get a wife. Can you make that possible?” “Of course,” she replied confidently. I snickered. She must be taught that I'm the boss here. “Looks like there's another contract to sign today.”
