Twenty-Three

1506 Words

A group of four, two men, two women. Their postures were relaxed, almost casual, but there was a sharpness in their eyes, a readiness that told me they weren’t foolish enough to be unguarded. The man at the front was tall, his golden eyes scanning us like he was assessing a threat. His dark hair was tied back, and despite the easy way he carried himself, his presence commanded attention. He wasn’t just another wolf. Beside him, a woman with striking features moved slightly ahead, as if she had planned to stand beside him but changed her mind at the last second. The way she moved was precise, practiced. And then there was the other woman—her dark curls pulled into a braid, her sharp gaze flicking between Alex and me. But Alex… He wasn’t looking at me anymore. I felt it before I saw it.
